As long as it isn't bothering him, you can monitor it at home. Watch for rapid change or growth or if it causes pain. Your veterinarian can perform a fine needle aspirate to collect samples for pathology. This may identify the lump. Treatment options can be discussed once results are returned.

Your suspicions are right. This is a skin mass unfortunately. Due to the color, I would recommend having Nanni seen by your vet and the mass sampled to see if this is cancerous or benign (non-cancerous). Hopefully it is not cancerous and we can just monitor it. Hello! With out at least a picture of the bumps its hard to give you an idea of what may be going on. I can tell you that the most common reason cats scratch there ears is due to a mite infection. Another common problem are polyps in her ear, which are usually in the ear canal and can cause cats to scratch their ears. The bumps around the outside of her ears could be irritation from her scratching the area. Other considerations could be a primary dermatological problem and neoplasia. While age is certainly not a disease, neoplasia is more common in older pets and therefore has to be on the list. I do not think Spicy is any immediate danger. I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian as for an examination of her ears and possibly some tests of the skin around the ears. Hopefully this helps a bit!

In a senior cat, there is always a chance any lump could be cancer unfortunately. If it is cancer, the vet will likely want to do further tests to see if it's spread. There may be chance this is just a polyp, and removing it is curative. You need to be aware that any surgery carries risks due to anesthesia, but the vet wouldn't recommend the surgery if they didn't feel it was safe for him. I do recommend having the surgery done. Please understand that it's impossible to say what this lesion is with 100% certainty without examining cells from this lesion microscopically. With that said, Tigra's lesion looks as though it could be a cyst. Most cysts are benign lesions. Many rupture and some refill at a later date, but they won't go away completely on their own. It would be best to have Tigra examined by her vet within the next month or so, or sooner if it's changing dramatically or bothering her. Until her appointment, keep a close eye on it for changes, but don't worry about applying any topical medications.

The most common cause of itching the ears in cats is from ear mites. These mites are incredibly annoying and cats will do almost anything to make them go away, including hurt their skin as you are seeing.
