My cat with IBD vomited meds. Can I give injectable Cerenia?

Poor girl! Yes you can safely give Cerenia and Buprenorphine on the same day and even at he same time, if needed. If she has kidney disease then subcutaneous fluids will also help with that. I know th Cerenia helps with her vestibular disease because it mostly is helping with her nausea. However Cerenia is only safe to give for 5 consecutive days. After that time frame I would suggest asking your vet for motion sickness medication (Dimenhydramine) that can be given long term, if needed. I hope your kitty feels better soon!

I am guessing the injection given was Cerenia. Side effects are uncommon with the use of this medication, but the most commonly noted side effects were: drooling, drowsiness, diarrhea, and appetite loss. I would be worried and I think he needs to get back to the vet. Were any x-rays or blood testing done? If not, that needs to be done to figure out what is going on. This sounds like it could be something more serious going on. If it was just a simple upset stomach he should be feeling MUCH better after that injection and not sleeping for 10 hours. I would be worried.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. The clavamox could be the cause of the vomiting as this is a common side effect with clavamox. I would give the cerenia about an hour prior to the clavamox. Food should be given with the clavamox as well. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Hello. This may have been a vaccine reaction & the Cerenia should have helped. However, we do sometimes need addition anti-nausea medication to get over some of these acute episodes. Often, I will also use Ondansetron if the vomiting persists even with additional use of the Cerenia. Of course, there could be some secondary issue going on & the timing of the vaccinations may have been coincidental. If Jojo continues to vomit, she may need additional Cerenia, & possible some fluids until her body heals. Make sure you stay in touch with your vet in case she does need additional treatment. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Trixie. Cerenia typically provides 24-48 hours of nausea relief in cats. So I would give it to her approximately 12 hours before her next dose of chemotherapy. This will give the medication plenty of time to start working as well as provide relief for many hours afterwards. I hope this information helps!

Side effects in Cerenia are rare, and it is safe to give Penny the tablet form. The injectable form is typically reserved for animals who are vomiting so much they cannot keep down a tablet. I would agree with your vet's advice :-)

You can re-dose him. It is a very safe medication. But, if you didn't see any trace of the pill in the vomit I would suspect he kept it down. It would have been better to give it a few days after his anethesia. The anesthesia along with the medicine probably upset his stomach. For future reference, any time you give an oral pill to a cat it is best to "chase" the pill with a small amount of water to ensure swallowing. Hope this helps!
