My cat has heatstroke symptoms, vet closed. What should I do now?

If you are unable to find a vet to take him to, you can cool him down by using cool water. Get a thermometer and take his temperature by inserting it into his rectum about one inch. The normal temperature is 99.5-102.5. You don't want to cool him down too quickly or he can go into shock so it is important not to use ice or cold water. IF his temperature is still elevated, you can soak towels in cool water and drape them over him. If he can swallow, spoon or syringe cool water into his mouth. Keep him comfortable and cool and stop cooling measure when his temperature reaches 101, so you don't make him too cold. It is important to take him to a vet as soon as possible because heat stroke can have long lasting effects that can be deadly. That's extremely hot for a cat, and Gizmo could easily get heat stroke. Put a fan in front of him to cool him down, and make sure he has cool water to drink. Offer him wet food, as that has a high moisture content and will get water into him. You can also soak his food in some tuna juice from canned tuna packed in spring water. I hope this helps.

Oh no poor guy. There isn't much you can do for him at home in such a dire situation as this. He needs medical care unfortunately. If your vet is closed then I would highly recommend taking him in to an ER vet who is available after hours and is readily available to take care of Shadow in such an emergency type situation as this. If he isn't able to move, then I too would be suspicous of a stroke event, a saddle thrombus (clot in the lower abdomen), a urinary blockage (especially if he is vocal and unable to urinate), or some other cardiac disorder.
