My cat just had kittens, but acts like she's in heat. What's wrong?

She may very well be back in heat. Typically, a female cat will go back into heat 6-8 after delivering a litter of kittens. Some can be ready as soon as a week afterwards. This can certainly be compounding the stress or losing one of her kittens. Maintain as much of a normal a schedule with her as you can. Do not force attention on her though. Keep her remaining kittens close and make sure she is nursing regularly.

Cats are often going into heat within 2 weeks after weaning the kittens. The discharge is called lochia and can last several weeks after the kittens are born. I recommend spaying these cats right around the time the kittens are weaned, or within that 2 week period after, to insure they do not get bred again. Then you won't have to worry about Shadow having another litter.

Cats can go back into heat quickly after giving birth, especially if her kitten was stillborn. I cannot say if Katniss has any more kittens without seeing her in person, I'd have her checked out by a vet to be safe.

Oh no, poor Shadow! She could be having a pyometra (infected uterus) event or another internal illness. None of these symptoms are normal for a cat in heat or just coming out or heat. And any cat that doesn't eat for more than a day should be examined by a vet because cats are masters at hiding diseaseand illness until they are really really sick. I would recommend taking Shadow in to be seen, examined and blood analysis ran to hopefully determine the underlying issue so that we know how best to treat her. Hopefully it is something your vet can deal with quickly so that we can get her feeling well again soon!

Yes, it is possible that she is back in heat. Cats are induced ovulators and will often stay in heat until they are bred. I suggest you get her spayed as soon as possible. I agree with you, it sounds like she’s in heat! I don’t see her age listed, but I see she is not spayed and she’s 4 pounds so I’m assuming she’s a kitten. If she goes outside and is around intact males, she may go into heat a bit earlier than expected, which is usually 6 months. With aar infections cats tend to scratch their ears and shake their head, rather than roll around as you’re describing. If she’s eating normally, I doubt it’s her mouth, but an exam would have to be performed to have a better idea. Allergies would be possible but often don’t start causing an issue until adulthood, and again would be expected to cause itchiness and scratching, redness on the skin, sneezing, etc. If her abnormal behavior continues, take her in. Again I suspect she may be in heat. Good luck with her!

Just like humans, there are many reasons Lana may not be interested in food and it is impossible to know without a physical exam. It's possible there are still kittens inside the uterus. Uterine infections are also possible. Unfortunately, both of these can be fatal without treatment. It's also possible this is something like a less severe infection but one cannot know without an exam. Have her examined today and bring the other kittens with her.
