Cat hair loss between shoulders, yellow scab, but acts normal?

It is uncommon for cats to get general wounds just by rubbing up against something or scratching themselves - usually a wound is due to direct trauma like a bite from another cat. If he goes outdoors this could very well be the case. This wound may turn into an infection (abscess). At this stage I would just monitor the wound. Do not put anything on it. If you notice any of these things then you need to get him to your vet ASAP. * swelling around the wound * discharge coming from the wound * wound is hot to the touch * Casey stops eating/drinking or becomes lethargic * vomiting or diarrhea Hope this helps. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The scab can be a mass, matted fur, infection, or chronic wound. It is difficult to say exactly what it may be without a photo. If Twilight allows, you can use an electric clipper to remove the fur around the area to keep it clean and get a better look. If you think that the area is increasing in size, starts bleeding, or is causing discomfort, I recommend having Twilight seen by a vet. I hope this helps and that all is well!

I don't think I would be overly concerned about this at this time. I suggest you monitor that area for now. You can apply a topical antibiotic ointment/cream if you'd like twice a day. If it doesn't get better after 10 days or so you should have your vet check her out.

Hello. It is very difficult to know exactly what this might be, but it does resemble a healing abscess. If she is constantly licking the spot, then you might want to put a light Elizabethan collar on her to prevent further self-trauma. But, if she is not bothering the area, then just keep an eye on this for the time being. Anything you put on it will just get her licking it off & perhaps doing more damage to the skin. Hi there. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. So sorry the Sushi is having this issue. It is very hard to tell from the photo exactly what is going on. What I think I can see is that the area is not overly red or swollen. If that is the case and he is eating and drinking and acting normally I would not be concerned at this point. I would only be worried if the area gets swollen or if he starts to feel sick (not eating, extreme lethargy, vomiting, etc). You are welcome to apply a thin layer of Neosporin to that area twice a day until healed. If not real resolution of the this wound after a week then I would say he needs to see your vet. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. A scab means it's healing, so I would just keep an eye on it for now. If you see signs of infection, it gets bigger, it starts to bother her, or it doesn't appear to be healing, then have Fatina seen by a vet. I hope this helps!
