My cat is sad after his friend died. How do I help him grieve?

I do think our pets grieve, and this can last various lengths of time. All you can do is provide lots of love and affection and with time the grief will improve. I am so very sorry you have to say goodbye to KJ. Some cats do grieve when their companions pass on. Make sure he keeps eating, give him lots of love and attention, playing with him frequently. I'm very sorry for your loss. Mineau could absolutely be grieving for your spouse. If possible, try to find one of your husband's old shirts, hats, or something that may have his scent and place this item near his bed. Our pets experience grief and loss, and just like people, it takes them a variable amount of time to deal with that loss. If Brostom was very close with the other cat, he might benefit from having another cat in the home to keep him company. If you decide to pursue this, I recommend a slow introduction and keeping the new cat in a separate room for a few days where they can smell each other under the door. If this increases Brostom's agitation, then it might not work, but I think it would be worth trying. I hope this helps.

I am sorry to hear about the passing of your kitty. Pets do mourn and this is highly individual how long this will last, just like humans. There are some things you can do at home which may help the remaining cats to feel more comfortable. Stick to a routine, pets generally do best if they know what to expect. Considering using a Feliway diffuser which dispenses feel good pheromones. Set aside 30 minutes a day for vigorous play with the cats. Provide climbing and hiding opportunities in the house. There will be a period of adjustment for them, and it can take a few weeks for that to happen, but they are already showing signs of adjust if his sister is not as shy as before.
