My cat's fur isn't fluffy after a trim. What can I do to help?

A good, balanced diet is a great base for a good coat. Daily brushing and grooming can also help keep the coat shinier and fuller. You can also add in a supplement such as vitamin E and fish oils which can help improve coat health as well. Keeping the coat clean with regular baths or using pet/baby wipes can also help keep it full and shiny.

Kittens will go through growing phases where their coat will look more dull or more shiny until they reach adult age. I would not be overly concerned based on those photos you posted - I think he looks normal. Once he is closer to adulthood you can have a better idea of how the coat is really doing and you can make a judgment from there if you need to change foods or add in a coat supplement to the diet.

Honestly, unless there are bald spots and/or she is scratching the area I would not be too concerned. If the problem persists though (like for a few months) then you should take her to your vet for an exam. Some reasons there could be changes in the hair coat: 1. Diet - the special diet she is eating may be causing some nutrient imbalance. You should talk to your vet about putting her on a supplement for her coat (like fish oils) as this may help. 2. Skin Allergies - even if she has never had any symptoms of allergies before, they can develop over time. If this was the case though, I would expect hair loss and/or scratching, redness of the skin, etc. If you are not seeing any of that then this is not as likely to be the problem. 3. Fleas - again, I would expect hair loss and scratching. If you are not noticing that, then this is also not very likely to be the problem. 4. Stress - even if you don't think your cat is stressed, she could be. Try to see if you could think of anything that could be causing stress like visiting family, stray cats hanging around outside, you got a new pet, new furniture, etc.... 5. Thyroid disease- either a low or high thyroid can cause problems with the hair coat. Your vet can do a blood test to check for this. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

The coat looks a bit dull and flaky. She probably has some form of seborrhea. I suggest you use this medicated mousse on her a couple times per week for a few weeks. Flicka may have allergies or some other skin condition that allows her fur to pull out or break more easily than it should. She might benefit from a diet high in omega fatty acids or a food allergy specific veterinary diet as well. The best place to start would be an exam by your vet to evaluate her skin and see if she needs diagnostics like a skin scraping or food allergy trial. Hope that helps!

It looks "unthrifty". This may need a simple brushing or grooming to correct. Sometimes, if a cat is ill or injured, he or she may not self groom as much. In these cases, it is best to have an exam with your veterinarian. A simple blood test can be done to screen for thyroid issues. If results are suspicious, a more comprehensive thyroid panel can be submittted. At Cloud's age, hyperthyroidism is not likely.

That's hard to say. It could be nutrition related. Try adding in an omega 3 fatty acids for cats and change the food to Royal Canin, if this does not help after a month, have your cat examined by the veterinarian for thyroid disease and oil gland issues. I hope this helps.
