My cat has fur loss from fleas. Will she get cold outside in winter?

It is hard to say exactly what the issue is with Miss Kitty sight unseen, but I can offer you a possibility. If her scratching has subsided after Frontline Plus administration, then it is possible she did have a flea allergy. As long as you continue to use the flea preventative every month to help keep fleas from coming back onto Miss Kitty, her fur should grow back in a couple weeks. :) I hope this has helped and best wishes to you and Miss Kitty!

I recommend to have Cike examined by her veterinarian. Hair loss and weight loss could indicate a hormonal imbalance, parasites or poor nutrition. The doctor may be able to figure out the cause was some basic testing and a physical exam. Once the cause is appropriately diagnosed, the correct treatment can begin. You may also consider having her spayed as this will help to stop shifting hormones which can result in poor hair coat. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

If Honey is shaking more, then I would be concerned that she is cold. There are coats and sweaters that you can get which will fit cats from pet stores, and I recommend getting her one of those. When I shave my Persian (he has very fine fur), I put a coat on him to help keep him warm. I hope this helps!

I would think the scabs are most likely due to itching secondary to fleas. I would recommend applying a flea prevention every 30 days to all stay cats if you can. If you really cannot catch them I would try to spray the environment with pet friendly flea killer. It can be very hard to manage fleas in outdoor animals

No, normally there should not be any noticeable change in a cat's hair coat regardless of whether she lives indoors or outdoors. Coat length and thickness are mainly determined by genetics, not the cat's living environment :)

If you are noticing a flea infestation and this is the cause for the excess shedding/over-grooming of her fur, then simple treatment and prevention of the fleas and time will allow for her coat to regrow. It is important, however, to understand how Capstar works. When administering a Capstar, this will kill all the fleas on Jackie and those that re-infest her for 24 hours, after which it is no longer effective. It is important to also follow with a preventative treatment, such as Advantage II, that will then continue to kill and prevent the re-infestation of fleas for one month. This is a topical treatment that is applied between the shoulder blades. Another option would be a Seresto collar, which provides flea prevention for up to 8 months. Remember to also treat the environment where Jackie is located (indoors and outdoors) to add another layer of protection against re-infestation. In some rare cases you may notice minimal or no hair regrowth if significant trauma was caused to the hair follicles due to over-grooming, but in most instances adequate control of the fleas and therefore the itch will allow for hair regrowth with time.

I would be concerned about fleas and allergies foremost, and recommend she be on a high quality flea preventive (seresto collar, revolution topical, bravecto topical are all good, or your vet can recommend one they carry - avoid the pet store for this because there are some sold there over the counter that can actually cause seizures in cats. The seresto collar lasts 8 months, so might be a good option for handling her less, but she may also find a way to get it off). If she's already on a preventative, I'd recommend talking to her vet about testing/treatment for allergies. There are many different ways to approach this and you're going to be significantly limited by her feral status.
