Great question! I personally recommend a high quality brand such as Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, or Iams. I recommend these brands because they have veterinary nutritionists on staff who make sure the food is correctly formulated to meet a cat's nutritional needs. Rachel Ray is not a food I would recommend, unfortunately. She is a TV chef with absolutely no eduction or training in animal health or nutrition, so I would not feed a diet from someone who doesn't have those credentials. The brands I recommended above employ full time veterinary nutritionists on their staff, who have the eduction and training needed to correctly formulate a cat's diet. Good luck, I hope this helps!

In general, you should avoid any grain free diets. Pets generally don't have allergies to grains and I recommend to feed a high quality diet such as Purina ProPlan, Science Diet or Royal Canin. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

I recommend Hills Science Diet, Purina, and Royal Canin. These are all high quality brands with good research behind them, that perform feeding trials to ensure adequate bioavailability of all the essential nutrients.

I understand that it can be quite confusing to know what is good food versus bad food with all the conflicting information out there, but you definitely don't need to break the bank to feed good food. Also, there is A LOT misleading and outright false information amongst various people in the community, which may make you feel like you're feeding an inadequate or dangerous food.

Purina One is a good food that I have fed to pets in the past. I have no problem with it and would only suggest that you ensure the food is labeled for Greyson's life stage. Below is a link that explains how to check the product for this information. There is no one food that I think is superior to any other and the reality is that they are all quite similar and provide adequate nutrients.

Don't believe those sites. Typically they are written by people who have absolutely no training in animal nutrition. The best brands of cat food are Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. They meet AAFCO standards, run feeding trials, and (most important), have veterinary nutritionists on staff that ensure the food is healthy and balanced. They are the only brands to have this. I feed my cats Iams, and they love it (including my Persian).

Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. The first three brands are a little pricier, but they are very high quality. Help me find high-quality cat food after a bad brand experience.

Wellness, Weruva and Royal Canin are all good choices. When it comes to a canned food, look for one with a named protein source of animal (not plant) origin. Choose a food that comes from the can looking like a hockey puck. Avoid foods with gravies or sauces. These are typically higher in carbs which can predispose a cat to obesity. Avoid meat meals, by-products as well as store or discount brands. These latter two contain low quality ingredients and more fillers.

What cat food brands do vets recommend for a healthy male cat?

As a general rule of thumb, I find Science Diet, Purina ProPlan and Royal Canin foods to be of a high quality. These companies thoroughly analyze their foods, run controlled clinical feeding studies and carefully source their ingredients. While there are plenty of other good food brands available, I find these three to be quite consistent. As a male cat, I typically recommend feeding a mix of both wet and dry foods. Neutered male cats have a risk of developing urethral obstructions, and increased water content in the wet food can help to slightly decrease this risk. Anytime you make a change in diet, be sure to do so gradually by mixing the old and new foods together over 5-7 days.

I'm not familiar with this brand of food to be honest. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I would feed Ryo one of those brands, and make sure it's a kitten formulated food. He needs kitten food until he is a year old. Best of luck.

What's the best dry food for adult cats: Royal Canin or Merrick?

It's really important to consider your sources when it comes to information about pet foods. For example, a popular pet food "review" website here in the US is run by a human dentist with no veterinary training. I recommend feeding balanced diets that meet the World Small Animal Veterinary Association nutrition guidelines (https://wsava.org/global-guidelines/global-nutrition-guidelines/). Examples of these good quality brands, which I recommend, include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, Iams and Eukanuba. All of these brands have been formulated by a veterinary nutritionist and have been appropriately tested. I think Royal Canin (or one of the other brands I'd mentioned) is a much better option than Merrick. I hope this helps and that all goes well!
