My cat has fluid in lungs and rapid breathing. Will he be okay?

It is always hard to look at x-rays on a computer screen like this. I am not seeing clear fluid, but I can't be certain. Marbocyl is a type of antibiotic that can be used with bacterial pneumonia. Other causes of increased respiratory rate are being hot (though this isn't the most common cause), infection (bacterial and viral), heart disease (needs a heart ultrasound), asthma, pain, anemia, kidney disease, among others. If the antibiotics do not show improvement in another day or two, I would take Leo back to the vet for additional testing (including other views of the chest x-rays).

Hi there. A sleeping respiratory rate of less than 25 breaths per minute is considered normal in cats, so this is definitely a good sign :) If she's not showing any symptoms of illness and her breathing rate is normal, then she may be fully recovered. If you're not sure, I would recommend taking her in to your vet for a recheck to be safe :)

Hi there. Usually inhalation would not cause fluid in the lungs, but I would recommend having Baby seen by your vet if you suspect any lung issues. These can be progressive and get worse rapidly, so if you're able to have Baby checked today that would be a good idea. Hello, I'm sorry to hear this about Douglas. I think its a good idea that he is hospitalized with these signs of fever and noisy lungs. Persian breeds are brachycephalic, meaning they have a shortened nose and anatomically altered respiratory tract. This does make them more susceptible overall to respiratory infections like pneumonia. Some pneumonias can be viral induced (and then quickly get secondary bacterial infections which is why antibiotics are needed) and if that's the case, he should have at least some virus protection from his vaccines to reduce the disease severity compared to if he was unvaccinated. Many young cats will have respiratory infections and recover to live full, happy lives. Some of these cats will have chronic respiratory signs and disease over their lifetime afterwards, but this is often manageable and treatable. I hope this is helpful. Possible causes are congestive heart failure, pleural effusion (from heart failure, infection, cancer, chyle, blood) or cancer. Has your Vet determined the cause. Cats in heart failure can do well once stable but will need to be on life long medications. Only you know what is best for Spas and your family. If he doesn't start improving where he doesn't need oxygen and is breathing normally with in 2-3 days then it is reasonable to think about stopping. If he responds and is back to normal I would treat him until he has another crisis and then consider stopping. I hope this helps and I wish you and Spas the best!

Hi there, and thank you for posting this question. I am concerned as you are about that high respiratory rate. I would also be concerned about other lung problems and would recommend an x-ray. Kittens can develop an infection called FIP that causes fluid to build up in the chest and/or belly. I would want to make sure this isn’t what is happening. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. You are correct that Jeje's respiratory rate is higher than normal, but it's good that he's breathing with his mouth closed. I would be very concerned if he was opening mouth breathing, as that's a sign of respiratory distress in cats. He may not be feeling well at the moment leading to the increased respiratory rate. Because I can't see him in person, I can't say for certain he will be ok, so it's certainly fine to take him into a vet now for a health check. Otherwise, you can monitor him, and if his respiratory rate is still high in the morning, I would have him seen by a vet.
