My cat ate human food, breathing fast and not eating. Is this serious?

This is a medical emergency - he is also very pale which indicates he is not getting sufficient oxygen around his system. This can be due to anemia, heart/lung disease or severe infection and shock. Please have him fully assessed by a vet urgently as this is immediately life threatening

Your English is good enough for me to understand what you are saying! I'm wondering if he could have a respiratory infection causing him to breathe faster than normal. Or if it's hot where you are, that could be a cause. Put him in a cool and dark room with plenty of cold water to see if that helps. If his breathing doesn't improve over the next 24 hours or he starts open mouth breathing, take him into a vet right away. I hope this helps!

It's not normal for cats to "pant" or breathe with their mouth open, and breathing more rapidly than normal is often a sign that something is wrong with the lungs or heart. Eating less and drooling are also signs that he isn't feeling well for some reason. I would strongly recommend taking Owi back to the vet for an exam. Your veterinarian can listen to his heart and lungs, and will likely recommend chest x-rays as a starting to help determine what might be wrong.

She most likely has a stomach ache if she got into human food or bones. The rapid breathing is a sign of discomfort. Abnormal breathing in a cat can occur from conditions such as pneumonia, heart failure, asthma, bronchitis, among other possibilities. If her pulse (not respiratory rate) really is 70 bpm as you pointed out that is very abnormal for a cat and at the same time even if it was her respiratory rate it would also be abnormal. For that reason, I highly recommend that you have Marciella evaluated by your local emergency clinic or your veterinarian if open as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include chest radiographs. Treatment would be dependent on findings. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The best way to measure respiratory rates in animals is when they are asleep. In cats and young animals it is very hard when they are awake as they are sniffing and in cats they purr. I would count his breathing the next time he is in a deep sleep and not purring. I think he is likely fine. He is a young cat and as long as he isn't coughing (sounds like a hair ball) or open mouth panting I think things are fine. if you are still concerned then I would have your Vet examine him.
