My cat has fleas and a swollen foot wound. What's the best treatment?

hallo, my cat is having a trouble on his skin. there are plenty of flea and also a wound in his feet like the attached photos

That wound on his foot looks swollen which is concerning for a deeper infection or a wound to the bone structures in the leg. I recommend to get this examined since a physical exam is the first step in determining the extent of the injury.
As for the fleas, top products for cats are topicals such as Revolution and Cheristan. There is also an oral product called Comfortis that both dogs and cats can take. You will need to switch all the pets over to a good flea product. Make sure to discuss these products with your veterinarian first. These products are generally safe for all pets but there are some conditions which are contraindicated for the oral products.
Cleaning up and treating the house and yard will also help but it will not clear all the fleas. The main control is making sure the pets are on good products. This is what will ultimately stop the infestation. Also remember every female fleas lays about 50 eggs a day and it could take up to 6 months before the eggs hatch. Therefore, you will need to treat for at least 6 months. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Kitten has bloody neck sores and fleas. How to treat and prevent?

Poor little Chester! Fleas will be very itchy to him, and he could have scratched himself hard enough to cause the puncture wound and bleeding. Wash the area with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it.Dawn dish soap will not prevent recurrence of the fleas, and you need to treat him a flea treatment program. First, I would give him Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps!

How do I get rid of severe cat fleas infesting my cat and home?

See your veterinarian for an exam. Sky may need antibiotics to prevent or treat infection of the sores. A short course of steroids followed by antihistamines may provide relief from the itching. Your vet can also dispense Capstar to kill any adult fleas on Sky. Follow up with a topical preventative such as Revolution or Frontline. Either should be applied monthly for at least 3 consecutive months, preferably year round. Vacuum your home/apartment. Clean everywhere Sky has been. Dispose of the bag outdoors. Wash all bedding in the hottest temperature allowed by the fabric. To prevent reinfestation, use an environmental treatment such as Knockout ES.

My cat's eye is red and swollen. Could it be fleas or an injury?

Poor girl. Yes I do see the swelling there of the left eye. She may or may not have scratched her eye b/c of the fleas, but it definitely isn't helping the situation. You will unfortunately have to visit your vet to get the prescribed medication she needs to have her eye treated for, because there are no over the counter eye meds for pets. I would recommend topical Revolution to prevent fleas in cats, this product is also given through your vet and is highly effective. I would also recommend treating your home for fleas with a flea fogger from your local Lowe's or Home depot. So its best to schedule an appt within the next day or 2 to get Qumar the medications she needs to get well. I hope that Qumar is able to get all her issues resolved soon. Best wishes and take care.

My dog has fleas and sores. What flea treatment is best for all pets?

Hi there. I would recommend getting all pets in the home started on a good quality prescription flea control medication like Nexgard or Bravecto for Ollie, and Revolution or Bravecto for the cats. Once you've done this and had your home treated to get rid of any fleas or flea eggs still remaining in the environment, you should be in good shape as long as you keep everyone current on their flea treatments going forward.

My cat has fleas and bloody scabs. What's the safest treatment?

Hi Alan. I prefer topical like Advantage multi or revolution for cats because they tend to last longer and be more effective. There are also medications available orally like cap star and comfort is for felines! Hope this helps!
