My cat has fleas and is sick. What OTC flea treatment can I use?

Yes it ia sbsolutely ok to treat her for fleas. I would use a spot on such as Advantage or frotnline Plus or similar spot ons. and you can get some Pyrantel Pamoate from your veterinarian to worm her (it is a liquid, that does not taste terrible) or a Drontal for cats tablet.

I am so sorry that your pet Tori has fleas. Unfortunately you can't get a flea pill that will last without seeing a veterinarian. These are not sold over the counter. You will have to take Tori in to your local vet to get a prescription for safe use of the pill options. I would recommend Comfortis for cats to handle your flea problem. Also she may not be sensitive to all of the topical flea products. However for the good quality topicals (Revolution, Bravecto) she will still require a vet visit first. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Unfortunately, there is nothing orally for cats that works to my knowledge. All the options for cats that I am aware of are topical. If you do decide to try a topical product PLEASE read the labels carefully as there are a few that are sold for dogs that are FATAL to cats. I like Advantage II from Bayer. It is over the counter, very effective, and lasts about 4 weeks - long enough to break the life cycle. Unfortunately, all the cats would need to be treated at the same time to prevent re-infestation. I agree and would be very suspicious of scabies, fleas or ringworm. All of these conditions can affect humans as well. The flea will respond to a product like frontline that you can purchase over the counter. However no over-the-counter products are as effective against scabies or ringworm. I recommend to have the kittens examined by a veterinarian to determine the exact cause. This way they will all receive appropriate treatment and you may need to see your own human doctor. Scabies is often treated with a prescription called revolution or advantage multi. Ringworm is treated with a special dip and oral medication. I hope this helps.
