My cat has ear bites after flea treatment. Are fleas still active?

When there has been inflammation in the skin (like what happens secondary to a flea bite) the skin will sometimes change color as it heals. That area looks like it is starting to regrow hair and that the original inflammation is subsiding so I wouldn't be concerned. It is recommended to use at least 4 months of consistent flea prevention to fully eradicate fleas or all year round if Lynx is an outdoor cat. A high quality flea preventative like Frontline plus, Revolution or Advantage should be used.

No photo is attached. Please give us more of a description of what you are seeing with your Bella. Fleas can cause skin problems so I’m glad you bathed her and have treated for fleas. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Are you sure it isn't fly strike? To prevent mosquito bites I would keep Furball in when they are most commonly out (dawn and dusk). Hello. I am so sorry for your poor Cheeto, his skin looks horrible. I think he would really benefit from antibiotics & treatment for a pretty significant flea bite dermatitis. Judging from the photos you have provided, I would suspect this to be a severe allergic reaction or something such as a cancerous skin condition of the ear pinna. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine this so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Vampira may need a course of steroids to treat this if it is a mosquito bite hypersensitivity or other allergy. I hope this helps! Hello. The wounds could be from flea bites, & Rascal is scratching to the point of making things worse. Cats can also harbor a demodex mite. It is important to make sure you are using a good flea & tick product that is labeled for cats to see if this is the cause of the sores. Cats can also develop sores from allergies. This is called miliary dermatitis & this is generally treated with a steroid or other immunomodulating medication like cyclosporin. You will need the help of a veterinarian to diagnose a skin mite & prescribe a treatment. I hope Rascal is doing better soon & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It’s hard to see the bug in your picture. It is likely fleas. I would start a flea medication. I like the oral ones like Nexgard, Simparica or Bravecto and I also like the Setesto collar which lasts 8 months. With these you can bathe him as well. With the topical medications you can’t bathe until 2 days after application. And personally I do not think they work as well. I hope this helps!
