My cat fought: back swollen, limping. What should I do?

This is very likely the result of the cat fight he had few days ago. The lesion look like a burst abscess or a bite wound. It is quite deep and is affecting Leo systemically (not eating well, lethargic). I recommend a visit to your local vet; Leo possibly need some antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medication. Hello. It is possible that this could be a strain, but most likely Darcy was bitten during the fight. It can take a few days for an infection to fester up so if she continues to hold the foot up, you should see your veterinarian. If an infection/abscess does develop, without antibiotics, it can open up & drain pus. I would try to have this looked evaluated at your earliest convenience. Thank you for submitting your question regarding your cat. He needs to see a veterinarian today. The limping can be due to a bite wound on the leg. If it is a bite wound, I worry about an infection developing underneath the skin. The eye needs to be addressed as well. The tissue protruding can be a laceration of his third eyelid. He will need to have his eye assessed for damage to the surface of the eye as well. Depending on his exam findings, he will likely need antibiotics and possibly surgery depending on the state of his wounds. I hope this information helps!

It is painful and makes the cat not want to eat. She will need to see a veterinarian to determine if this is the case. If so, treatment such as antibiotics will be necessary. If you cat goes outdoors, this is very likely the result of a cat bite. It is amazing how small a cat bite wound can be, but under the skin, infection is building up. Have Coco evaluated tomorrow by your vet because if this is a bite wound, the sooner antibiotics are started, the sooner she will start feeling better. There can be many sources of pain. Fractured bones are a possibility. There are many tiny bones in the paws, but if Mizzy lets you press firmly on all 4 paws, long leg bones, and along the back and ribs, she may not have anything broken. Second, ligaments or muscles can strain or tear. Sometimes this causes swelling and pain in a specific place, but not all the time. Third, she could have a wound or bruising in an area that is hard to see because of the fur. I would recommend just monitoring her for a few days. Watch her eating and drinking, and watch for improvement of the limp. If any thing changes or isn't better in a few days, she should be evaluated by a vet. Mizzy should also stay inside during this monitoring phase since cat's that are sick or painful may hide and don't always come back home for you to care for them.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking.
