Should my 7-year-old cat get surgery for a facial tumor/cancer?

That's a good size growth on Mowe's face. No, she may not be too old for surgery. There are plenty of cats who are older who successfully have surgery. She does need to see a vet to discuss having this removed, and the vet can do a physical exam, geriatric blood panel, and urinalysis to assess her anesthetic risk for surgery. In a senior cat, there is always a chance any lump could be cancer unfortunately. If it is cancer, the vet will likely want to do further tests to see if it's spread. There may be chance this is just a polyp, and removing it is curative. You need to be aware that any surgery carries risks due to anesthesia, but the vet wouldn't recommend the surgery if they didn't feel it was safe for him. I do recommend having the surgery done. Squamous cell is an aggressive form of malignant cancer. IF it can be completely removed then her chances are good. If the surgery leaves any portion behind, it will likely reoccur in a matter of a 1-3 months. They do have good quality of lives with the loss of eye and vision as the pain and discomfort gets relieved so they tend to feel better. If you do not go through with the surgery then the growth will spread and has potential to take over that side of face and will lead to a poor quality of life.

I am so sorry about Shadow and the diagnosis of oral SCC, unfortunately the prognosis for cats with oral SCC is poor and most cats will have survival times ranging from 3-6 months. Cats with small tumors located on the lower jaw (mandible) that are treated with surgery have a better chance of surviving for one year.

I think a biopsy is worth doing, it's relatively very brief and non invasive, it will give you an answer regarding the type of tumor, this way you can know for sure if there is any hope. from the sound of it though, it's probably a malignant tumor and there is probably nothing that can be done to stop it or treat it, at some point you will need to stop the tests and accept it.

At her age and the fast pace of which it is growing, it may be a cancer. If surgery is not an option, then you are looking at keeping her comfortable which is very reasonable given her age. As long as she is happy and not in pain and has a good appetite, then just let her keep going as she is. When she no longer wants to eat or no longer seems to enjoy life or the tumor begins to limit her mobility, then it will be time to consider euthanasia.
