My cat's eyes look strange after cattery stay. What's wrong?

I'm sorry to hear about this. I know it can be really stressful to come home from a vacation and see that your pet has an issue after boarding. It looks like your cat had a stressful boarding time. This is actually quite common. Cats don't always do very well in new environments and can stress out their immune systems very easily. This could be the cause of the goopy eyes and the blisters in the mouth. The spot on the nose could be from rubbing her face on the bars due to stress. It looks like something that you could wait to take your cat to the regular vet, so I would not worry about that. Let her relax at home and give her plenty of food and water and quiet time until you can get her to the vet. Kennels and other places that pets frequent can often harbor illnesses. Add in the stress of being boarded for a few days, and your cat may have picked up something such as an eye infection or respiratory infection from the kennel. If Goose doesn't improve, or is acting very ill, bringing him into the vet for an exam is best. Since some illnesses are bacterial, rather than viral in nature, a fully vaccinated cat can still get sick from them.

I recommend having her evaluated by a veterinarian to ensure that she does not have a respiratory infection as this can cause the eyes to appear this way. She can also be started on deworming and be tested for the feline leukemia and immunodeficiency viruses at this time. If she is sick, then she will likely need to wait to be vaccinated. Poor kitties! How frustrating! The three main things that come to mind with the history of recently been boarded would be ringworm (which humans can get), mites or fleas, or an allergic reaction if they were given a different food from what their regular diet is. If you have not ruled out either parasites or ringworm, I would recommend to rule out all of those. These would all be contagious and thus could be picked up at a boarding facility. Also make sure they are eating their normal diet again. If you have already ruled out both ringworm, fleas or mites, and food as a potential cause, please post again. Your veterinarian can perform a few simple tests to look for parasites or ringworm. Parasites are treated with a topical medication. Ringworm is usually treated with a medicated dip although oral medications can be used in some cats. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Good job that you are not letting them to be together. Once you de-worm her and put on a flea/tick product, she should be OK to meet your other cats. Also, if Felix is going to be an outdoor cat you should get her vaccinated. Ask your vet to examine the eye - some kittens will scratch themselves and cause small skin wounds, that may be the case. She looks healthy and very happy on the photos you posted :)

It looks like that left eye may have some ongoing damage ongoing problem with the cornea clear, (front part of the eye). Does she seem like she can see? Does she walk along walls (as though looking to be leaning in for a knowledge of where she is), does she bump into things? If she does not bump into things and DOES seem to be able to see, then her pupils are probably functioning appropriately even if you can't see it. However it is possible too that she has some lens changes... the lens in the left eye looks a bit cloudy in the picture. As long as she's an indoor cat, it shouldn't matter too much whether or not she can see. Most blind animals do quite well and function great as pets. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Most intestinal parasites are passed fecal-orally (meaning the animal would have to eat infected stool) or from ingestion a mouse or a flea. Signs of intestinal parasites are weight loss, diarrhea and possibly vomiting or decreased appetite. The only way to diagnose worms to to physically see the adults or have a stool sample checked to see the eggs microscopically. Sometimes Vet will just treat for them, especially if they are suspicious or the cats go outdoors. You can always see if your Vet would treat with out a stool sample. I have never heard of any parasite causing excessive tearing. That is most commonly a viral upper respiratory tract infection or allergies. Sometimes cats just vomit. Other causes of vomiting are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, ate something gross, ate something that is stuck, pancreatitis, intestinal disease. I hope this helps!
