My cat has eye mucus after I removed a hair. Is it serious?

It sounds like Squeak could have an eye infection. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. White discharge can be a sign of dry eye, especially if it is continuous. However, dry eye is not very common in cats. This is highly likely. Dogs commonly get their hair stuck in their eyes and unable to get it out. The eyes cope by producing that mucus. You could try to flush it out using an eye irrigating solution and gently using a piece of damp gauze to wipe it out if needed. I hope this helps!

A clear discharge can be caused by some irritation such as dust or excessive draft. This would not be concerning and would pass within a few hours. Sometimes cats have an obstructed tear duct and then this could also cause a transparent watery discharge. Another cause would be a viral respiratory infection. In that case however , both eyes would be affected. Monitor the discharge and if it turns yellow or green or milky she will need to be seen by a vet for a bacterial respiratory infection.

It is likely due the difference in anatomy of the small eye. She may have an allergy or infection that is making worse currently. I would have your vet check it to see if medication is needed to help control the discharge and inflammation. If the eye is otherwise quiet, talk to them about having the eye removed if this is a long term problem since it is no visual anyway, it can help with over all comfort long term

I wouldn't worry too much. If she is tolerating you wiping it, just clean it as needed with with a warm wet cotton ball. If she is pawing at her eyes or rubbing her face on the ground, or seems to have any other issue going on, call your vet and get her in for an exam.
