Why does my cat's eye leak and blink excessively after sleeping?

This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. Sneezing and eye discharge make me suspicious of a viral infection, especially feline herpes virus. Herpes virus can cause a myriad of eye problems including ulcers, conjunctivitis, and keratitis. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian soon as you don’t want the problem to get worse. Do not apply anything to the eye without checking with your vet first. You can clean underneath the eye with a cloth dipped in clean warm water twice a day to help prevent buildup.

I am so sorry to hear that Ichabod is experiencing these problems with his eyes. Thank you for providing an excellent picture, it seems slightly redx the third eye lid is protruding, and has discharge. Start by placing an e-collar or cone on Ichabod to prevent scratching or rubbing. If the eye is infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Him to scratch or rub hiseye. However, this could inflict further damage, infection or even an ulceration. Because eye concerns with cats, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly in I would have him examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian. Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments. Your cat may have an upper respiratory infection. This can be caused by a variety of viruses. There is also a possibility that your cat has blocked tear canals due to the anatomy of its head. These can possibly be flushed by your vet. Some Persian cats' tear canals are blocked permanently due to the dished face and cannot be unblocked. Regular cleaning off of the discharge is necessary in that case.

This actually sounds more like a viral upper respiratory infection. Herpesvirus and calicivirus are very common in cats and many cats are exposed as kittens then continue to have mild outbreaks throughout their lives, particularly during times of stress. Symptoms include watery or red eyes with clear discharge, squinting, sneezing and clear nasal discharge. If this is new for Cass I'd recommend having your veterinarian take a look at her to see what they think. I would not recommend using any eye washes or giving antihistamines - this would be unlikely to help and could make the symptoms worse.

Poor Satin. : ( Closing of the eyes along with mucous discharge are signs of an eye infection. Eye infections in cats can be caused by an underlying viral infection or from some sort of corneal trauma (ulcer, scratch). Satin needs prescription eye antibiotic ointment to clear this up. Your vet can do a quick eye stain to diagnose the underlying problem and get him the necessary medication he needs, so schedule an appt with your vet within the next 24 hrs to get this taken care of quickly before the eye worsens.
