My cat has eye boogers and gunk. How can I make him more comfortable?

If the discharge is continuous, or he is squinting or eyes are matted closed he should see a veterinarian to determine the cause of the ocular discharge. Do not use any sort of eye drops without a veterinary prescription. Treatment will vary depending on the cause of the infection or inflammation.

Clear eye discharge is not uncommon. I would not be worried about this unless the discharge turns yellow or green which would indicate an infection. You can use saline solution or a commercial eye wash to rinse the eyes out daily if he will let you. Otherwise just wiping the discharge away when you see it is fine. I would use a cotton ball soaked in warm water to wipe the eyes and not a Q-tip. They also have pre-made eye wipes for cats if you would rather use that. Hello. Most of these kitties have a viral infection of the eyes often complicated with a secondary bacterial component. Other than keeping the eyes clear by gently cleaning with warm water a few times a day, there is not much more you can do except having the kitten seen & treated by a veterinarian. This is usually treated with antibiotic eye drops and cats usually respond well to therapy. I recommend that you have Bubbles evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This is usually treated with antibiotic eye drops and oral antibiotics and cats usually respond well to therapy. I recommend that you have Deimos evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If they agree that based on an examination, that seems to be the issue, they will likely prescribe medications to make him feel better. It looks like Kuon has an eye infection. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do for him at home other than keeping the eye clean and wiping away any discharge. You will need to get antibiotic ointment from a veterinarian to help your kitten get better. There is no other way to get an antibiotic.
