Why does my 6-month-old cat have eye boogers, crust, and a weird smell?

Hello. Bear has an upper respiratory infection most commonly caused by a virus. If Bear is eating well, & acting fine, his symptoms will hopefully pass in a week or so. Most cats do not need antibiotics. But if he develops any significant conjunctivitis, severe sneezing, nasal discharge, lethargy or loss of appetite, please see your veterinarian for appropriate treatment. Oh my goodness, Piggy is so cute! From the picture, it doesn't appear she has an eye infection, and the boogers you are seeing in the morning could just be build up from sleep the night before. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain, so I would make a vet appointment for her this week. She should be examined by a vet anyway since she was abandoned to make sure she is overall healthy. I hope this helps.

Hello. This could be any number of things such as a flare up of a herpes virus very common in cats, or he has as infection, possibly from a small scratch on his cornea, or even a bit on conjunctivitis. Wil should see his veterinarian to make sure there is nothing more serious with the eye, & usually, with the proper treatments & medications, eyes clear up very nicely. A visit at your local vets is strongly recommended to confirm the diagnosis and to start treatment for Echo. He will likely need a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory agent and a decongestant medication.

Hello. Most of these kitties have a viral infection of the eyes often complicated with a secondary bacterial component. Other than keeping the eyes clear by gently cleaning with warm water a few times a day, there is not much more you can do except having the kitten seen & treated by a veterinarian.
