Is eucalyptus oil toxic for cats, especially when used for fleas?

My take is that all essential oils are potentially very dangerous for cats so i would never take the chance. in addition and from experience, these products do not work to protect dogs from ticks and fleas so i strongly doubt they would work on cats.

Eucalyptus can cause gastrointestinal signs like vomiting and diarrhea if large amounts are ingested. The oil tends to be more toxic. You could hang the eucalyptus where your cats don't have access, but if you think they'll still try to eat it you may want to avoid it.

Hi there! The product you placed on her has a few essential oils in it but nothing else. These are generally not toxic but could cause an upset stomach if ingested. The only worry I would have is the product not working as non of these oils in the product are efficacious in treating and preventing fleas in cats. I would try a Rx from your veterinarian. If Bell appears very irritated with the product on her, then I'd give her a bath to wash off the oils. A product called Revolution or Comfortis works very well. You may to ask your vet about getting Bell on either one of those or something similar.

Clove and peppermint only annoy your cats' and dogs' sence of smell. Since they have a much more keen sense of smell these aromas are overpowering to them. Fleas do not get repelled by peppermint and clove. I would not use it near my pets. The best way to get rid of fleas is as follows: Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas. Between them, these three substances kill adult fleas and stop the development of eggs and larvae of fleas and house dust mites. However, as permethrin is toxic to cats, I would not use it regularly and certainly would not leave the cats in the house while spraying it.

Tea tree oil is toxic to cats, and I would not use it at all in your home, as there is a chance Poe could lick the oils and become very sick. Lavender is also toxic, as are citrus oils (orange) and eucalyptus. Peppermint and lemongrass are the only safe ones you have to use around Poe, and I would restrict your use to those essential oils only. You can also use cedar wood and rosemary.

Lavender oil is listed as toxic to cats in most toxicology databases. Inhaling it may cause respiratory irritation. If enough is inhaled, it may cause serious toxicity. Given how dangerous it is, not having it in the house at all would be recommended.
