My cat eats wet food partially then finishes later. Is this normal?

Cats, like people, can have times when they are simply less hungry than others. Sheba still ate well, so I would not be concerned about this one time change in her wet food consumption. Keep an eye on her for signs of lethargy, vomiting or diarrhea, or if she stops eating any of her food. These would be signs that require veterinary attention. I hope that all goes well!

What you are describing does not sound normal. Certainly adult cats will eat a little less than kittens if they are less active, but it sounds like Mischa's appetite has decreased pretty dramatically. You can certainly try changing brands or flavors of food in case there is something she does not like about her food. I also do not recommend mixing the canned and dry food because if they do not eat it all at once, moistening the dry food can cause bacterial growth. So, if you feed both types of food, just put them in seperate bowls. If you try a different food and Mischa still does not eat well, I would recommend having your vet examine her and possibily run some bloodwork to makes sure that everything is normal. Good luck! Hello, sorry to hear about Lily. You may try a different brand of wet kitten food. You can also mix it with dry kitten food. Depending on how often you are feeding her she may also not be hungry. Kittens may have a fluctuating appetite that may be associated with growing and how active they are. As long as she is eating some food, and not having any vomiting, diarrhea or lethargy then she should be ok. If you note any of the above then have her evaluated soon.

This is not unusual behavior. In the wild, cats eat 9-16 times in a day. Since she is not over weight, you can continue free feeding her. Make sure she is checked regularly for worms and watch for any signs of illness. I hope this helps.

I don't think I would be worried. If you are also offering her dry food, she may be deciding that she prefers it over wet food. She is definitely at the age where they can start to show preference of things. I am also not worried about the stretching, it sounds like her body's way of saying, "That was a good meal, now it's time for a nap!"

For some cats this is normal. This is likely the case with Tinkle, because she has been eating like this for so long. They will only eat as much as they need and will maintain a lean body weight. This is only concerning if the cat is too thin. This could indicate a long history of parasitism (worms), or some other condition. If you are ever concerned that she is too thin, then I recommend having a vet doctor examine her for any abnormalities. Otherwise, if she is a 4-5 and acting normal, then it is great that she is so good at maintaining this lean body weight. Thin cats tend to be healthier and live longer than fat cats.
