My cat is eating less, losing weight, and meowing. Should I worry?

This is very serious. Cats often hide when they are ill. Bob needs to see a vet as soon as possible. You did not mention his age so it's difficult to give you an idea of what may be going on. If he is a young cat then he may have an intestinal obstruction. In an older cat the most likely causes for vomiting, hiding, weight loss and "bathroom" issues are: kidney disease, thyroid disease, diabetes and cancer. Regardless, he needs to see a vet. You can't let him go on suffering.

Unfortunately yes, weight loss and increased meowing can often be signs of illness in cats. You don't say how old your cat is, but if she is middle-aged or older the first thing I would be concerned about is possible thyroid disease - hyperthyroidism very commonly causes both of these symptoms. It also often causes increased appetite, and sometimes soft stool. Other possible causes could be diabetes, kidney disease, or even a digestive problem like inflammatory bowel disease. I would recommend having Ittybitty examined by a vet - he/she can do a simple blood panel to check for most of these problems, and advise you on treatment options based on the results.

Depending on his age, this can be caused by a number of conditions - infections, urinary issues, or even certain cancers. If you are concerned that Bubba has not been himself, he should be seen by his vet. Your vet can perform bloodwork and x-rays to ensure that Bubba's organs are functioning normally and that he does not have any masses present. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Toots! I would bring a stool sample and have Toots examined by your Vet. I would recommend full blood work including Feline Leukemia and FIV. If that is normal then I would consider maldigeetion and malabsorption blood work (tests B12, folate and 2 pancreatic enzymes and consider an ultrasound of his belly to rule in or out underlying intestinal disease like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or small cell lymphoma. Most IBD cats are treated with a prescription diet and anti-inflammatories. Since he is getting worse I recommend starting a work up. I wish you and Toots the best!

Poor Boboom sounds very ill! I certainly hope he isn't dying, but without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. It's extremely serious he won't eat, and when a cat doesn't eat for more than 72 hours, they develop a fatty liver which is fatal without treatment. He really should be with a vet now for intensive treatment, including IV fluids and appetite stimulants in order to have the best chance of survival. Please take him back into one now.

Poor Bum Bum! It sounds like he's quite sick. Unfortunately, not eating, weight loss, and laying in his litter box are all very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost any kind of illness. It's possible that his respiratory infection is causing him to feel sick and not eat, or he may have a more serious problem such as liver or kidney disease. Regardless of the underlying cause, when a cat doesn't eat for more than 24 hours this always requires a vet visit - not eating for multiple days can cause serious liver issues and even death in cats, even if the original problem was relatively minor. Your vet can do some lab tests to help determine what's wrong and get Bum Bum started on appropriate treatment right away.

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Bobo's symptoms do sound concerning. There can be many medical causes for decreased appetite, decreased thirst and lethargy. There is really nothing that can be done for at home for this without getting a diagnosis first from Bobo's veterinarian. I would recommend he see his veterinarian asap for an exam and evaluation. He may need blood work, x-rays, or other diagnostics as needed. I hope this helps!
