Why does my cat like bananas? Are bananas safe for cats to eat?

Some cats like Noushmc may sometimes like odd foods. Cats however need specific amino acids to maintain heart health so I recommend to feed a commercial cat food that is fortified to have the daily nutritional needs met. In general Royal Canin, Purina and Iams all make quality cat foods. The dry kibble or the canned food are both fine and many people feed a combination of the two. This is a potassium rich fruit that is a good alternative to the traditional dog treats that you get from the store. Bananas are high in fiber, which can help with gastrointestinal problems and magnesium which helps promote bone growth and helps the body produce protein and absorb vitamins.

Cantaloupe is not toxic to cats, and should be safe to give in occasional, small amounts. However, I would not recommend giving large quantities of cantaloupe regularly since cats are obligate carnivores and do not require fruit as a part of a balanced diet. Too much cantaloupe could lead to vomiting and/or diarrhea.

While bananas are not toxic to cats, eating the hard stem could potentially cause an obstruction in the intestines. The good news is that a lot of the stem will most likely break down in the stomach acid but some of the harder pieces may stay intact posing a risk as it moves through the GI tract. I would recommend feeding him canned pumpkin in addition to his food to increase fiber in his diet and monitor for signs such as vomiting, lethargy, inappetance, abdominal pain, etc. If you notice these symptoms, then I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. In small amounts such as what would be in baby food, its not going to cause a problem. Just be sure you are giving the baby food as a supplemental treat, not as a primary diet source, and keep an eye on her weight as it is rather calorie dense. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Cats and dogs are actually lactose intolerant and dairy products can cause tummy upset consisting of vomiting and/or diarrhea. If Tilly tolerates yogurt just give it in moderation. I hope this helps!
