Cat scratching ears, brown gunk, and growing blue dots. What's wrong?

These are most likely ceruminous cysts, which are essentially cysts filled with ear wax. We see this condition with a disorder known as cystadenomatosis in cats. These can be in the ear canals, on the ear flaps, around the eyes, mouth and occasionally the anus. Unfortunately there is no medical treatment for the underlying disease. If they extend down into the canals, the only treatment is total ear canal removal. However, the individual cysts can be removed with a surgical laser. I recommend taking Mario to the vet, so they can provide and accurate diagnosis and assess the extent of these. I hope that helps.

Wax accumulation is quite common and I would not be overly concerned without any pain, loss of appetite or activity. I would recommend cleansing with a cat safe, alcohol free ear cleanser daily for one week then once to twice weekly for 3-4weeks. A vet check and ear exam would be recommended to rule out any structural issues or infections if symptoms change or persist beyond a couple of weeks

It could be Kitty has an ear infection. In cat's her age, ear infections are likely caused by yeast or bacteria, and you need to have her seen by a vet to have this diagnosed and treated. Leaving this untreated can lead to hearing loss.

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Even though the pics are slightly out of focus, the growth you described seems to be a tick. I would recommend a clinical examination at your local veterinarian as an essential to confirm this and remove it appropriately. Local antibiotics may be needed.

This appears to be ceruminous cystomatosis - very common in Himalayan and Persian cats. It is a benign neoplastic condition but sometimes becomes a problem when lesions enlarge and occlude the ear canal, which disrupts normal self-cleaning. With just one cyst present I would not be overly concerned but if more start to appear and/or they get larger then you may need to have treatment done. Cryotherapy and/or laser treatment is usually the first line of treatment. It does not cure the issue then surgery to remove the entire ear canal is needed (TECA). A lesion like that could be a bacterial infection or ringworm (which humans can get). Your best option is to have Mocha examined and tested for ringworm. Make sure to protect the area from rubbing and scratching and she should wear an elizabethan collar at all times.
