My cat has an ear canal tumor. Is it serious? Does it need surgery?

My cat is 2 years old. recently i have seen tumor in Ear Canal. Is it worrying? Does it require surgery?

This appears to be ceruminous cystomatosis - very common in Himalayan and Persian cats. It is a benign neoplastic condition but sometimes becomes a problem when lesions enlarge and occlude the ear canal, which disrupts normal self-cleaning.

With just one cyst present I would not be overly concerned but if more start to appear and/or they get larger then you may need to have treatment done. Cryotherapy and/or laser treatment is usually the first line of treatment. It does not cure the issue then surgery to remove the entire ear canal is needed (TECA).

At this stage I would just recommend monitoring it. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Your suspicions are right. This is a skin mass unfortunately. Due to the color, I would recommend having Nanni seen by your vet and the mass sampled to see if this is cancerous or benign (non-cancerous). Hopefully it is not cancerous and we can just monitor it. My senior cat has lumps in his ear. Are they serious or normal?

These are most likely ceruminous cysts, which are essentially cysts filled with ear wax. We see this condition with a disorder known as cystadenomatosis in cats. These can be in the ear canals, on the ear flaps, around the eyes, mouth and occasionally the anus. Unfortunately there is no medical treatment for the underlying disease. If they extend down into the canals, the only treatment is total ear canal removal. However, the individual cysts can be removed with a surgical laser. I recommend taking Mario to the vet, so they can provide and accurate diagnosis and assess the extent of these. I hope that helps.

This is a seriously big tumor and needs to be removed ASAP before it spreads to thee inside of the ear. It is obviously painful or bothering the cat, which is why she is scratching it drawing blood. This in turn may cause infection. Please encourage your neighbors to take Baby to a veterinarian and have that tumor removed surgically.

In a senior cat, there is always a chance any lump could be cancer unfortunately. If it is cancer, the vet will likely want to do further tests to see if it's spread. There may be chance this is just a polyp, and removing it is curative. You need to be aware that any surgery carries risks due to anesthesia, but the vet wouldn't recommend the surgery if they didn't feel it was safe for him. I do recommend having the surgery done. Should my older cat's ear ulcer be surgically removed for SCC?

Yes, I would strongly suspect squamous cell carcinoma in an older white colored cat. The microsporum was likely an incidental finding. If this was my cat I would definitely remove the pinna and send it to a lab for histopathology. If it is SCC, the surgery should be curative. This looks like ceruminous cystomatosis which is a non-cancerous tumor of the wax glands in the ears. Treatment involves removal of the lesions (which often will regrow and need to be removed again) either surgically, with a laser, or with cautery. It is important to note that surgical removal will likely lead to scar tissue formation and some deformation of the ear flap. I suggest you have Mowgli examined by your vet when you can.

A picture may be helpful. If its not bleeding or bothering him, it is not an emergency. However, I would recommend that you get it checked out, as it may be a tumor.
