Is dried toilet bowl cleaner residue on the floor toxic to my cat?

Most of the floor cleaners used nowadays are not heavily toxic and if your kitty just licked a small amount off his feet he shouldn't have any long term effects. Occasionally we may see some stomach upset or irritation to the mouth. I would offer him some food and just monitor him for vomiting and excessive drooling. If you notice any abnormal behaviors then you can bring him in for an exam. As I said, most floor cleaners will dry quickly and won't be harmful unless the pet is licking large volumes up, but if you want to be extra cautious you can mix vinegar with water to make a cleaning solution (though you can't use this on wood floors).

It sounds like you have taken the appropriate precautions and it should be just fine. Symptoms of cleaner ingestion may include: excessive drooling, vomiting, and/or a decrease in appetite. If any of this occurs for Mirz, please seek veterinary care. But once again, I do not think you have much to be concerned about after all you have done.

It was a great idea to steam clean the kitchen, and it should be good enough. If you are very concerned, you can scrub the floor again with a cleaner, and then steam mop one more time to make sure that the cleaner is completely removed.

If you want to rinse her mouth out well with water as a precaution and wipe her paws well with water to prevent any more possible ingestion that isn't wrong. If she becomes lethargic, drools, won't eat or in anyway appears abnormal then bring her to the Vet. But based on your description I think she will be fine. Maybe have a discussion with your roommate about this so it won't happen again. I hope this helps!

It can be irritating to the skin and irritating to the stomach if a lot is ingested, but wouldn't be toxic beyond that. You can just rinse the areas that had contact with the cleaner with normal water. Flush the area for a minute and continue to keep her off of the carpet until it dries and she should be fine. Most household cleaning products are fine to use around your cat. There is no serious harm here if you are using products and then allowing them to airdry. The main concern is that some aerosolized cleaning products can cause irritation of your cats airway in some cases. However, most of these products will also cause you discomfort as well, so use your best judgement here. In most situations if you can handle exposure to the product, then so can your pet. As far as ingesting products go, you just have to make sure not to leave out any buckets of cleaner that your cat could potentially get into, and you are basically covered here as well. If you are still a bit worried about your pet, you can also switch all your household products to more organic cleaning products such as Green Works or the Mrs. Meyers products, which are derived from 98% natural products.
