My cat drank toilet water with a bleach tablet. Is my cat poisoned?

It's not safe for cats to drink bleach water, but animals typically do not ingest enough bleach to cause toxic effects. You may see vomiting, drooling, abdominal pain, and a sore throat. Give her plenty of fresh water, and take her to the vet if you see any of those signs. Do not allow her access to the toilet in the future to drink from it. I recommend getting her a cat water fountain to drink from, it will give her a supply of fresh water at all times, and in my experience cats love drinking from them. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Oh no, that's not good that Tigger may have drank diluted bleach! Enough bleach can cause vomiting, and mouth, throat, and stomach irritation. Rinse his mouth out with water right away, but do not induce vomiting. That can make the situation worse. Encourage plenty of water intake, soaking his food in tuna juice or gently warmed low sodium beef or chicken broth to get more fluids into him If you do see any abnormal symptoms such as vomiting, anorexia, lethargy, diarrhea, or irritation in his mouth, I would have him seen by a vet right away.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! To be safe, bathe Sabbath in case bleach got on his fur. Since cats groom themselves we wouldn't want him to get bleach in his mouth. If he'll let you, try to rinse his mouth, but don't do it if he tries to bite. Bleach can cause irritation or ulcers in the mouth and stomach upset if ingested but if it is diluted there probably wouldn’t be much risk for harm. I would not be concerned about harming any unborn kittens. You should restrict her access to bleach water in the future and see a veterinarian if she begins drooling, has a decrease in appetite or vomiting.

Hi there. If it was just a brief moment, they probably didn't ingest very much. I would keep a close eye on their stool, appetite and behavior and if anything changes or seems abnormal, have them checked by your vet. I hope that helps. I assume you mean liquid Clorox bleach. If it was only a small amount that was soaked into the sock and if Chandler is acting fine, you are probably ok as it’s unlikely he ingested much if any. When pets ingest bleach, it causes chemical burns in the mouth and upper GI tract. Checks his lips, mouth and tongue (as best you can) for any redness or peeling/bleeding, monitor him for not eating well or vomiting. If you see anything, take him to the vet right away. You can also give him a couple tablespoons of milk as this will help to neutralize any bleach he may have ingested - be advised it could also cause soft stool. When in doubt, have him seen.
