My cat drank diluted bleach. What emergency steps should I take?

Bleach can cause irritation or ulcers in the mouth and stomach upset if ingested but if it is diluted there probably wouldn’t be much risk for harm. I would not be concerned about harming any unborn kittens. You should restrict her access to bleach water in the future and see a veterinarian if she begins drooling, has a decrease in appetite or vomiting.

Bleach can cause severe internal burns. I would recommend to call the Pet Poison Control Hotline. The chemicals are diluted but they will have a better idea of what amount is toxic and what the next steps should be. These burns can occur within minutes to a few hours. Call them ASAP. It's not safe for cats to drink bleach water, but animals typically do not ingest enough bleach to cause toxic effects. You may see vomiting, drooling, abdominal pain, and a sore throat. Give her plenty of fresh water, and take her to the vet if you see any of those signs. Do not allow her access to the toilet in the future to drink from it. I recommend getting her a cat water fountain to drink from, it will give her a supply of fresh water at all times, and in my experience cats love drinking from them. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

I assume you mean liquid Clorox bleach. If it was only a small amount that was soaked into the sock and if Chandler is acting fine, you are probably ok as it’s unlikely he ingested much if any. When pets ingest bleach, it causes chemical burns in the mouth and upper GI tract. Checks his lips, mouth and tongue (as best you can) for any redness or peeling/bleeding, monitor him for not eating well or vomiting. If you see anything, take him to the vet right away. You can also give him a couple tablespoons of milk as this will help to neutralize any bleach he may have ingested - be advised it could also cause soft stool. When in doubt, have him seen. The chances of Teddy having any problem is unlikely with such a small amount. You did good by diluting it out with water. If you have milk of magnesia, you can also give him 0.5mL (approximately 1/8 teaspoon) of that to also help him. The biggest concern is him developing oral ulcers or esophageal ulcers. Watch him closely to make sure he is eating, drinking and acting normally over the next few days. If anything abnormal is noticed, have your vet take a look at him. I hope this helps!

She may be fine, but I will give you some thinks you can do for her. First, give her a small bowl of milk. This may help neutralize any bleach present. Then check her mouth, see if you can see any redness in her mouth. If you do, she will need to see a vet. Otherwise, keep an eye on her. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Domestos contains bleach. If it is not ultra concentrated and it was very dilute then the outcome is better. Usually symptoms start with in mins: drooling, red lips, irritation around the mouth, pawing around the mouth and vomiting if a lot is consumed. Bleach is corrosive causing irritation of the gums, esophagus and stomach. If the bleach you use is ultra concentrated then Harley should see a vet immediately. Otherwise if Harley got the bleach on his fur, bathe him in lots of water and mild soap. Rinse his mouth out with lots of water and encourage him to drink water. You can add chicken broth, tuna juice and even try some milk to encourage drinking. If he starts to show symptoms despite the above he should see a Vet. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!
