My cat has diarrhea and is crying after UTI treatment. Stop Meloxicam?

Unfortunately this is a very large dose for his size. Also, if he has kidney problems he could be even more sensitive than normal cats. I would have your vet or your local emergency take a look at him. They may want to check his bloodwork to ensure his kidney values look okay and also make sure he is able to pass irons. If he is blocked and cannot urinate then This can also cause more issues with his kidneys. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better soon.

As long as he continues to pass large amounts of urine and the diarrhea stops the crying should decrease. However if the diarrhea continues Declan can develop irritation of the colon which can cause crying out as well. If the diarrhea continues and/or he is still crying after another day I recommend calling your veterinarian that is treating the UTI to discuss these new issues.?

It could be a side effect of the medication or it could be related to something else like stress. I recommend to call your vet today and follow their recommendations. A bland diet may also help. Please feel free to post any additional questions.

This class of medication can cause damage to the lining of the stomach and intestines. This appears to be the case for Kingston. It's good that you stopped the medication and I would not give it again until you are able to talk with your vet. The damage done to the stomach and intestines takes a while to resolve, so it's understandable that she is still experiencing some issues. It may take a couple of weeks until this is fully resolved. This does not appear to be serious at this time, so it's best to continue feeding him small meals. It's best if you can break the meals into multiple small meals throughout the day. These conditions actually heal better when there is food in the stomach, but they will definitely feel nauseous with moderate to large meals. I hope that helps and Kingston gets better soon.

I can't tell you what your cat is suffering from but obviously your cat has a gastrointestinal problem, i'm a little surprised that all the vet gave was Cerenia, i would definitely add an antibiotic course and a special food for a few day. it seems as now your cat can't poop, if this is the case i would start suspecting an intestinal blockage. i would advise having an ultrasound done, if possible by a specialist in order to find out what is wrong as an xray can miss a lot of conditions in the abdominal cavity and intestines.

I would recommend having her re-examined and do further diagnostics like X-rays and blood work to determine why. If she is still eating and drinking and energetic, you could wait until Tuesday.
