Is cat diarrhea normal after a stressful vet visit, stitches, and shots?

The incision is holding together. Yes, typically the stitches are not pulled tight at the time of surgery to allow for the skin swelling that naturally occurs after the surgery. As for the diarrhea, it could be due to stress or any medications Ella was given after surgery. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

Common causes of diarrhea or loose stools in a young cat include food intolerance, food allergies, intestinal parasites, bacterial or viral gastroenteritis, stress colitis, among a few others. Based on her history, stress from the visit or a change in treats may be the cause. If the diarrhea/soft stools continue next week, or if Pico starts showing signs of lethargy, inappetence, or straining, I would definitely have her checked out by a vet.

Diarrhea can be due to stress however, in a young cat/kitten the most likely reason for diarrhea is intestinal parasites (worms). I suggest you have a fecal test done at your vet's office to check her for worms.

Sometimes cats don’t eat well when they are out of their element. Also, stress can cause diarrhea. If the diarrhea lasts longer than 24 hours, I would recommend taking her to a vet to make sure nothing else is going on, like intestinal parasites or a bacterial infection. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. If the new cat is causing him stress then the diarrhea can be stress related. If this continues, I recommend that you have Zeek evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am very sorry this must be upsetting for you all. It is very possibly stress related. The veterinarian should be able to prescribe a medication to reduce stress during the moving process as well as a probiotic to help restore normal gut function. Your sister in law should be able to call and ask for a prescription for these medications as she has already had Louie seen by the veterinarian for this issue. Hello. If the diarrhea is slowing down, then it may just resolve on its own. It sounds like your cat received the long acting antibiotic called Covenia, & the most common side effect is diarrhea. I would start Ella on a probiotic such as Proviable or FortiFlora, both available at major pet retailers like Petco. I am less inclined to think this is IBD because IBD diarrhea is often accompanied by vomiting, too. I would be careful about using this drug in Ella again, but give things some time to see if the diarrhea quits with the addition of a probiotic.
