My cat has a deep wound, can't afford vet. What can I do?

It looks like a lacerated wound. I suspect that something sharp cut the skin (for example glass, metal sheet). I don't think the wound was caused by a cat fight. Please, take Orenji to your local vets, as he definitely will need a course of antibiotics. Also, the wound probably will heal up quicker if it is stitched up.

It definitely sounds like Halo needs some medical attention. If that's not possible, try to gentle rinse it with a very mild soapy water and rinse well. Then put an e-collar on him so he can't lick it, and keep him inside to try to keep it cleaner. It sounds like the wound might already be infected, but it could possibly heal on it's own if kept clean. Being a young guy works in his favor here. Good luck!

I am sorry this happened to your cat. This appears to be a very serious injury. Those are tendons showing. He should get antibiotics and this injury should be stitched up. If there is any way you can get him to a vet that is really the best option. I am not sure what products you have available for use in Brazil so I am not sure how to help you. I will try my best. If you can get Betadine solution I would make it into a dilution that looks like weak iced tea (light to medium brown). Do not use it straight. If the cat will let you I would soak that injury in that solution for 3-5 minutes a couple times per day. Discard the solution after each use and make a new solution. Do not re-use the same solution. If the cat won't let you soak the leg then you can just flush/wash the injury with that dilute solution. After that, dry the injury thoroughly, apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment and then bandage it (not too tightly). Keep doing that until it is healed. It may take weeks. If you can keep him indoors during this time that would be best. Again, a vet visit is the best option in this case.

Poor cat! There are no photos attached so I can't see what this wounds look like but I can say that if there is pus, it's infected. It will heal fine. Trim the fur so the air can get to the skin and then clean the area with hydrogen peroxide to prevent infection. Luckily cats heal skin wounds quickly if they stay open to prevent infection under the skin. Please trim the fur so you can keep an eye on the wound and so the fur doesn't get stuck in it. Clean the area with hydrogen peroxide. I can't tell from the photo but if there is dirt in it you can flush the area with warm water. I wouldn't put anything topical on it if Truffles is licking the area. Using a restraint collar will stop the licking and then you could apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it, not deep into the wound. Keeping the area open and draining for a few days will prevent an abscess, a puss pocket under the skin. If Truffles stops eating or the area is very red and painful then he will need a veterinary exam and antibiotics. These wounds are not usually sutured as that traps in the infection.
