My cat is coughing after my child laid on her. Should I be worried?

It could be her throat is a little irritated leading to the coughing, but it could also be a sign she is starting to get sick. I would keep an eye on her for the next couple of days. If the coughing increases in occurrence, she has a loss of appetite, has discharge from her nose, sounds congested, or is lethargic, then you should be concerned and have her seen by a vet asap. If the cough continues over 48-72 hours without change, I would also have her checked out by a vet to be safe. I hope this helps!

I'm sorry to hear both kitties are coughing. It is possible there could be something in the home such as dust or allergens causing the behavior, or both kitties got into something that is causing some irritation. Moving them to a well-ventilated area may help if there is some sort of irritation ongoing. If the coughing continues, or other symptoms appear, it is a good idea to bring them to your vet for an exam and to rule out any health issues.

If the coughing is a new thing that started after she came back from the cattery, there is a fair chance that she caught an infection while staying there. i would recommend taking Maggie to the vet tomorrow in order to get it checked, if it is an infection she will need a course of antibiotics in order to get back to good health.

It is hard for me to tell you what is going on without examining your kitten. There is the possibility for internal trauma from a fall that high in a very young kitten. I would recommend that you keep a close eye on her. I would be more concerned if the cough continues or worsens for 72 hours, or if she is not eating or panting more than normal. Keep her as still and calm as possible so that her body can heal. Kittens can heal very quickly if you can manage to let them do it!

This is a bit much to not be alarmed by it. It sounds like Spooky may actually be coughing , which could indicate a problem in the lungs (ie lung disease, heart disease, asthma, bronchitis, etc). I would suggest taking him to your vet to have his lungs listened to with a stethoscope and also any testing (i.e. radiographs) done if needed. I hope things work out well for your pet Spooky. We worry about a variety of issues ranging from a respiratory infection, feline asthma, heart disease, and more. The vet an examine Orchid, listen to his heart and lungs to check for abnormalities, and may recommend an x-ray to look at the lungs and heart. Based on their exam findings they can prescribe medication to help treat what is causing Orchid's cough.

I suspect she may be allergic to something in your new apartment. It could be allergy to plants or pollen but some allergies in cats are triggered by floor cleaners, dust, new carpets etc. Also, coughing in cats is often a sign of asthma, so maybe Mia has mild asthma ? Sometimes this kind of allergies or mild asthmatic attacks are very difficult to diagnose. The common way to go to in such cases is prescribing anti-allergic / anti-asthmatic treatment for 1-2 weeks. I would suggest you to discuss that with your vets.
