My cat hasn't pooped since switching to wet food. Is she constipated?

A 6 week old kitten should be able to be on normal food without milk right now. I would wait another day to see if she poops. Constipation isn't super common in kittens, especially on wet food, but it is possible. If Luna doesn't have a bowel movement by tomorrow, she should get checked out by the vet.

If your cat hasn't pooped in three days I would be concerned about constipation. One thing you can try at home is adding some fiber to his diet, either by doing a teaspoon of metamucil on his food or some canned pumpkin on his food. If he is not already on wet food you could try adding some warm water to his food as well. If the constipation becomes severe your cat will stop eat, act painful and maybe start throwing up. If you notice any of these symptoms you should take him to your vet so they can give him medication to relieve the constipation.

It is very common for a cat to not have any bowel movement for a couple of days after having diarrhea because it takes time for stool to build up again in the colon after an episode of diarrhea. I would be concerned if she is straining to defecate without producing any stool, vomiting or not eating. If everything seems normal other than the lack of stool production, then I would just give it a little more time. My guess is that she will pass some stool tonight or tomorrow. If your cat has mild constipation but is still pooping, I would consider a product like laxatone. It is labeled as a hairball remedy and is a flavored petroleum. You can put it on the food or on your cats foot and he will lick it off when he grooms. If, however, your cat hasn't pooped in days, he needs to see the vet for an exam and more intensive treatment.

I am not sure how many days she has gone without having a bowel movement. But if she is attempting to poop and straining, then she should see a vet immediately for an enema to help her go and then treatment for long term care. However, if she is not straining and it has been less than 3-4 days since she has pooped, give her time to adjust to whatever new things may be going on around her. Offer her food (Canned food is best @ this age or kitten formula if she has not transitioned yet) like normal and monitor her the next few days to see if she finally goes. Cats are notorious for holding their bowels when they are recently adopted, move, or there's a new introduction to the home. And finally, if you are seeing any other symptoms such as vomiting, decreased appetite, or straining, then Olly should be seen by your vet right away. Baby Yoda needs to be examined by the veterinarian. Any pet not pooping for 2 days needs to be examined as they may need fluids, enema, stool softners....etc. Constipation can get worse quickly so it is much better to take care of it earlier. Have her examined today. I hope this helps.
