My female cat's cloudy eye isn't better with drops. What's next?

By far the most common cause of corneal ulcers is herpesvirus; so although antibiotic drops are usually indicated to treat secondary bacterial infections or prevent infection, Kit might not be improving because she has viral eye disease. Some vets will try oral antiviral medication or topical antiviral drops. Herpesvirus can be very difficult to treat and it never goes away completely. You may want to ask about referral to an ophthalmologist for the best treatment.

First of all, if you didn't take her to your vet you need to do this so the eye can be checked first, it might be an eye injury or eye ulcer, in such a case the treatment will be different. Veterycin is an eye wash, it is not a medical drops and does not treat eye infections, if she has an infection she needs an antibiotic eye drops which you can get from your vet after he checks her eye.

The eye looks fine even though it is obvious that the problem is not going away yet, this can wait until tomorrow but it needs to be lubricated with eye drops, which i would think he is on together with the amoxicillin. if he is not on any eye drops, he must be on antibiotic eye drops in order to treat the eyes, in the meantime you can apply artificial tears that you can buy over the counter, until you can take him to the vet tomorrow.

Hello and thank your for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Superficial corneal ulcers are treated with antibiotics eye drops and oral pain killers. These medications are prescription-only, so you need to take your kitten to your local vets to get them.

Eye ulcers are very complex and there is no one size fits all treatment. There are many options for treating ulcers and this is in part depends on the underlying cause of the ulcer (poor tear production/quality, inturned eyelids/eyelashes, scratches from other dogs/cats etc). The cornerstone of treatments are a lubricant drop plus an antibiotic drop (each applied 15mins apart every 2-6hours depending on severity), in many cases serum drops (prepared from the patients blood) are also used to promote healing and prevent further inflammation. Surgical treatment may also be required to clear damaged tissue from the surface of the ulcer and sometimes to protect the eye with flaps/contact lenses etc. I recommend a check up by your vet to ensure the most appropriate treatment is selected

It depends on what the cause is of the cloudiness is. I would be concerned about glacoma, which is usually treated with eye drops (and sometimes surgery). I'm not sure what they might be treating with injections, but every doctor is different. I'd recommend asking that disease they are treat for, if there are other possible causes (and how to test for those/rule those out) and how long treatment should take and when you need to change course. I do not like the way this eye looks, but without seeing her in person, I can't say what needs to be done for her.
