My female cat's chest sore keeps opening and bleeding. What to do?

If he will let you I would try clipping the hair with clippers (not scissors or a razor) and clean the area with mild soap and water. If there is no open wound or any discharge you can continue to monitor the area. If it's open, oozing, or doesn't heal in 2 days, I would recommend seeing a vet for antibiotics. However, it is likely to represent an abscess or some type of traumatic injury or laceration. For both cases, it would be advised to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as both would require local wound management as well as antibiotics. If it is a laceration then stitches may also be recommended. I recommend that you Fiona evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment of this wound and to start her on the most appropriate therapy based on the findings. Good luck!

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It appears Precious may have sustained an abscess, probably from a fight with another cat. The abscess ruptured, & Precious has been licking the area to keep it clean. Her sandpaper tongue can actually cause more trauma to the area. You can clean the area with a little warm water & a disinfectant such as Betadine, & you may need to put an elizabethean collar on her to stop the licking. These type wounds do not always need antibiotics, but it would not be a bad idea to let your vet have a look at it just to make sure . Hope she well very soon.

I am very sorry that Kitty has his sore near her lip. Thank you for proving pictures, it is difficult to know precisely what caused this lesion it may have been a cat scratch, a traumatic puncture from for example a fence, or possible a primary skin like feline acne, or allergic disease. At this stage it appears to be slightly crusted and inflamed and I would suggest a trip to the veterinarian. The vet will most likely clean the wound and debris any necrotic material. The vet may also send home pain relief, anti inflammatory medications and / or antibiotics. The vet will also be able examine the area and reach a diagnosis. I am sorry for the delay in answering your question. I can’t say for sure what that is based on the picture, but I suspect she’s got an infection in the skin of that area. Keep it clean with warm clean water and you can use some dilute Betadine (iodine) once a day as well. If it’s not getting better, take her to a vet to be evaluated and to further advise you. Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. Wash the wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!
