My cat has a cheek abscess with pus and blood. Can I treat it at home?

I'm sorry Peekie has an abscess. I presume it is draining from your description. Unfortunately, it is very diffcult to get abscesses to heal without thorough flushing and oral (or injectable) antibiotics, so I would have Peekie evaluated by your veterinarian, so you can make sure it isn't a tumor and get appropriate treatment. Without examining her it's impossible to know for sure, however it resembles and has acted like an abscess. Ideally she would be seen by a vet, they would flush it out with warm (not hot) salt water (1 teaspoon in 1 cup of water- your vet would use sterile saline) and then likely get antibiotics and pain meds. An E-collar also prevents Littlecloud from licking and introducing more bacteria into the wound. If you cannot go to a vet, I recommend flushing it/cleaning it with salt water. Do not use any topical creams, just leave it open to drain. Clean it twice a day with the salt water, and try to prevent Littlecloud from licking at it or chewing at it. The main pain has now gone since the abscess has burst (the pressure is relieved) . Do not give any human pain medications as these are often very toxic to cats. Best of luck with Littlecloud!

It is pointless without finding and treating the underlying cause of the abscess. Abscesses typically heal quickly and with no residual issues as long as the underlying cause is addressed. Also, oral antibiotics are probably needed to completely clear the infection. Based on your description the most likely cause of the abscess is probably an infected tooth root.

I wouldn't recommend anything more at home, but I would encourage you to have your vet examine this young kitten. It is unusual for such a young kitten to develop an abscess and oral antibiotics might be necessary to help treat infection. The vet could also make sure this kitten is otherwise healthy with no indications of an underlying health condition that could have led to an abscess.

An undrained abscess should be drained and flushed as well. That should be done by a vet, as it will be painful for B, and he likely will need to be sedated in order to do it. In addition, it needs to be done sterilely to prevent additional infection from entering the abscess. I would have B seen by a vet now to have the abscess treated, and the vet can prescribe antibiotics for him as well.

Unfortunately no, there isn't a cream you can put on it to heal. He has to see a vet for systemic antibiotics to treat it. Since he's an outdoor kitty who roams, he can be given a long acting antibiotic shot so he doesn't need to receive medication on a daily basis. Please trap him and bring him into a vet today.

Tea tree oil is toxic to cats, so please stop putting it on Fresca. He will ingest it by licking it off, and that can have serious consequences for his health. In addition, that and aloe will not cure the abscess. Peroxide also interrupts the healing process and can cause damage to the tissues. Please do not give him Amox-Clav either, it's never recommend to self treat your animal with medications as you may accidentally do harm to him. In addition, it may be wrong antibiotic. Fresca needs to see a vet as soon as possible. The vet can drain and flush him abscesses, clean them, and can give him an approbate antibiotic to treat it.
