What to do for my cat's burnt paw with broken skin? Should I bandage?

Poor Tilly! If the wounds are severe, she should be seen by a vet right away for bandaging, antibiotics, and pain medication. You can apply a small amount of SSD (silver sulfadiazine) ointment to the paws - an E-collar or "cone" will help keep Tilly from licking her paws and causing further trauma. This is a bad burn, but doesn't look too bad and should heal well with treatment over the next couple of weeks. The best thing you can do is flush the wound using a syringe or other dispensing device with cool water for five minutes. This may not be easy, because cats tend to hate water on their paws. I recommend having someone help you with this and wrapping Zorro in a towel to make sure the wound gets flushed well. Silver sulfadizine is the best for burns and you may be able to get this at the pharmacy. In order to keep the wound clean, it's best to flush the wound 1-2 times a day and gently wipe away any big crusts - make sure not to scrub the wound, because this can make it worse. Apply the antibacterial cream after each flushing. After that, it's best to bandage the paw, or he may lick the cream, which can be bad for him. Bandaging will also help the wound heal faster. There are some helpful videos on YouTube to help you do this well. You can help keep the bandage on by placing a good (really sticky) tape above and below the bandage. Ouch! Running cold water on it was smart. Ideally, he should be seen by your vet since the burn looks like it goes through the pad. This could lead to infection. If this is not possible now, keep the area clean and dry. Use an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent licking. A dab of aloe vera gel can be applied a few times daily. Keep the e-collar on so he doesn't ingest the aloe vera. You may want to use shredded paper towels in the litterbox until the paw heals. Monitor for lameness, lethargy, swelling, discharge or odor. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

If she will tolerate a light wrap you could loosely apply Vetwrap to take the friction of use instead of her foot. You can also keep the skin there clean and dry and apply a little vaseline to the affected area to help keep it fleible and less likely to crack. Make sure to apply a small amount and rub it in well so she doesn't groom it all off. It won't hurt her to ingest it, it's the main ingrdient in hairball medications, but too much could cause diarrhea.

You should put an e-collar on your kitty, as she will likely lick off the neosporin and ingest it. You may gently wash the paw with warm water so all the debris and dirt is off and then, if it is just dry and cracked, you can put vaseline on the spot. If it looks red and angry or infected it may be advisable to take her to a vet for an exam. IF you put neosporine on the wound and it does not get better within two days, you should definitely take Teagan to a vet as there are some nasty autoimmune diseases which can cause lesions on the paws.

Cold water is the best remedy in the first couple hours, after that i recommend a special cream for burns with Silver sulfadiazine in it, you can usually get it from any pharmacy over the counter. if it becomes severe and very painful a vet visit will be require urgently.

You can switch out her litter to something such as Yesterday's News so that it is not painful to walk on. I would also apply a topical ointment such as Sentry wound cream (can be found at Petco) and apply twice daily for 3-5 days. This should heal fine on its own. If you begin to notice swelling of the foot or pus coming from the area, then I would take her in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
