Why is my cat breathing weird, making noises, and jerking head while sleeping?

If you only hear the sound when Kiara is sleeping, I would suspect that she's just dreaming. If there was a problem with her breathing, you would notice it when she was awake as well as asleep. I hope this helps.

Unfortunately kittens are susceptible to many viruses that infect the respiratory tract and can cause noise, running eyes and noses and general ill health. There is little to do for a virus aside from administering antinflammatories which you would need to have prescribed by a vet. However I would recommend taking the kitten in for an exam as the viruses can make way for bacterial infection and the vet can give antibiotics if needed. In the mean time keep the kitten in stress and draught free environment.

Upper respiratory infections in cats frequently have a viral origin, which is lifelong and cannot be cured but does not usually decrease lifespan expectancy. When the virus has a flare up, it allows secondary bacterial infections, which result in eye and nasal discharge that requires treatment with antibiotics. I would recommend that she be seen by her regular veterinarian to determine if she dies have an upper respiratory infection again or if there is something else (heart issue, allergies, etc.) going on and come up with an appropriate treatment plan if needed. It may be unrelated to her surgery, but this sounds like her respiratory function is compromised. This could be due to feline asthma, bacterial pneumonia or something similar. Respiratory distress in cats can be dangerous so I would bring her in to a veterinarian ASAP. They will likely do some chest x-rays and possibly some blood work to look for signs of infection.
