My cat is breathing heavily. What can I do until the vet appointment?

We have vet appt in 12 hours. What can I do to help my cat through the night for his heavy breathing, 62 bpm?

Even though you have a vet appointment in 12 hours I would encourage you to see an emergency vet if at all possible. Trouble breathing in a cat is very concerning, and can become life threatening quickly. There is nothing to do at home other than trying to minimize stress as much as possible - keep your cat somewhere quiet with little stimulation.

It depends on the primary cause. In abscence of any symptoms related to an upper respiratory tract disease, such as nasal discharge or sneezing, or increased noise when inhaling, you will have to assume that it is a chest condition. All diseases affecting the chest can be potentially life threatening so urgent vet care is required. In the meantime, cats should be kept indoors with minimal stress. Feeding routine as usual, try not to overheat the environment masking sure it is cool and well oxygenated. Hope this helps !

My cat has labored breathing from smoke. How can I help her at home?

I am concerned about this breathing in your cats. Cats can have asthma that could be worsened by the smoke in the air. Other potential causes are stress caused by the smell, or heart or lung disease. If this continues, I recommend that you leave the house to take Princess to the vet. She may need prescription anti-inflammatories or even oxygen supplementation depending on what the actual cause of the rapid breathing is. The best thing you can do for her at home is keep the house cool and keep her calm. Sometimes a fan blowing on her can be comforting.

Cat breathing fast, bleeding mouth after fight. Is it a vet emergency?

I would definitely take her to the vet as soon as possible. If she is breathing heavily then this could be a medical emergency. Your vet will be able to listen to her and possible do X-rays. They will be able to provide oxygen if needed. I hope this helps!
