My cat is bored with Royal Canin. What new cat food should I buy?

Hi and thanks for posting! Other brans you might want to consider are Wellness, Acana, Taste of the Wild, Evo, or Solid Gold. All of these come in both wet and dry formulas. Be sure to continue feeding her the kitten formulas until she is about 9 months old, then you can transition her to an adult formula. I hope this helps!

As long as the diet he is eating us a balanced and complete diet appropriate for his age there is no reason to change it or offer variety unless he has a condition which may respond to specialist formulas such as kidney or skin disease. Variety tends to encourage picky eating so if he is doing well, continue with his preferred food

Thanks for the question. There are some dogs and cats that are picky eaters like Baluu. When you bring home a new food if Baluu is willing to eat it, this is likely what is going on. You can approach this two different ways. One is to stick to one food and see if after a couple days Baluu gets hungry enough to eat it. The other is to simply buy small bags of food, and switch to a new food every few weeks. My own dog is quite picky, and after months of trying, I gave up and now we just rotate through different foods. He is happy, and I am no longer frustrated trying to get him to eat. I do recommend that when you switch foods you mix the old food and the new food together for a few days to avoid stomach upset. I hope this helps.

I would recommend you consider a different diet though it could be from the same brand. Remember to introduce her to the new diet slowly as follows: feed 25% of the new and 75% of the old diet on day 1. Then feed 50% of each the second day and 75% of the new and 25% of the old on day 3. On day 4, you should be able to feed her the new diet entirely. Good luck and have a great day!

I'm sorry that your cats won't eat Royal Canin! I personally believe that it's an excellent brand of food. You can try a different flavor of Royal Canin. Other brands I recommend include Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I hope this helps!

Cats don't have an issue eating the same food. We, as pet parents, feel they "need" variety or they will become bored with as we would. In fact, frequent diet changes may lead to gastrointestinal upset or can create a finicky eater.

For example, start by feeding 25% new food and 75% old food for a few days. Then 50%/50% for a few days. Then feed 75% new food and 25% old food for a few days. Then feed just 100% of the new food. This will help to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal upset as a result of a diet change. If you do not have any more of the previous diet, that is OK. Just be aware that your cat may have some soft stools for several days during the initial diet change. I hope this is helpful!
