My spayed cat has bloody urine, is crying & licking. Is it a UTI?

Unfortunately you will not be able to just order an antibiotic online. This may not be a urinary tract infection and could be what we call a sterile cystitis. You could start by ensuring she is drinking plenty of water (recirculating water fountains help), switch to canned food and start a supplement called paxon or cranberry supplement treats for cats, which can be found online. If the symptoms are no better, the next step would be to have her seen by a veterinarian for testing and further treatment. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Blood in the urine can be due to a few different problems. If it is red-colored urine and Lily has been urinating more frequently lately, then it is most likely a bladder infection/inflammation, but could also be a kidney infection. If it appears like fresh blood at the end of the urine stream, then this could indicate a problem with the vagina, cervix, or could be coming from the rectum. Either way, it's best that you take Lily to a veterinarian for treatment soon. If she is going to the litter box and nothing is coming out within the last 24 hours, then this is an emergency and I recommend you take her to the vet immediately. They will be able to locate where the problem is and provide the most appropriate treatment. Either way, Lily will need a professional to diagnose this problem and to provide the most effective treatment. Without good treatment, she can have life-threatening complications. Please take her to a Pet ER for an exam, urinalysis and prescription pain medicine if needed. It is rare for cats to have an actual infection (UTI), however cats often get a stress induced inflammatory reaction of the bladder which is quite painful and has the same signs as a UTI. Please do not give her any medication designated for humans. Cats often cannot metabolize human medications properly. Best take her to a Pet ER now. If you call your vet's office, there will be information on the nearest emergency veterinary service on the answering machine.

There is a chance that there was some trauma to the bladder area while removing the uterus which is located just above the cervix. Some light bleeding can be expected to occur for 1-3 days after surgery but copious amounts of blood or prolonged bleeding should be considered abnormal. I would recommend either taking your cat back to the previous veterinarian, since he/she did the surgery, for a follow-up visit for further care. Or if the trust has been broken with this vet, you can get kitty seen with another expert for an exam and potential urinalysis to ensure there isn't a UTI present that could explain the symptoms that mentioned. As long as there is an active flow of urine and no outward signs of illness (vomiting, diarrhea, bloated abdomen) then this sounds like a relatively non-emergency type situation that can be hopefully be resolved with medical treatment, if any.

It is usually related to bacterial infection of the bladder but it may be due to bladder crystals or stress. Please, take her to your local vets for an appointment, as most likely she will need a course of antibiotics to get better.

This could be a sign of a UTI or bladder stones in Mouse. I would save this glob of red tissue for the vet to examine if possible, and then I would bring her into a vet tomorrow for a physical exam, blood test, and urinalysis. Using these tests and examining the tissues, the vet can determine if Mouse does have a UTI or bladder stones, and can prescribe her the appropriate treatment.

PP needs to see a Vet today. Causes of bloody urine are: stress bladder inflammation (cystitis), urinary tract infection, crystals in the urine or bladder stones. Prevent her from urination by keeping her in her carrier or in a room with out a litter box for a few hours before the appointment so the Vet can collect a urine sample to test. If she has a urinary tract infection she will be put on antibiotics. I wish you the best!
