My cat has blood in stool. Should I call ER vet or wait until morning?

That's a good question. If she continues to eat and drink with no signs of vomiting, acting lethargic or very tired, then you can likely wait until Monday. If you see signs of blood in the stool or she starts straining defecate without passing any stool, then I would take her to an emergency veterinarian.

A diet modification may be needed to make it easier for her to pass stool if this becomes a repeated problem for her. Oh no. Poor kitty. : ( There isn't much you can do if there is internal bleeding and a serious musculoskeletal injury here. You just have to keep Tifa in a quiet isolated room and try not to stimulate her much. Bring her small amounts of water via a syringe of small turkey baster and some soft canned food. Getting her seen in the morning is all you can do besides this. I would not recommend giving her any over the counter human pain meds as these are very toxic to cats and can cause acute liver and/or kidney failure. Best case scenario is that she just has a bad muscle sprain and inflammation of her intestines due to the stress. However, an abdominal radiograph and bloodwork testing needs to be done to determine what internal injuries she has first, so that we know how best to help her condition. I really hope that she will be ok through the night. Lay her in a soft bedding (a couple of old t-shirts and a bath towel can do) for tonight to make her as comfortable as possible. It is possible that this particular stool was difficult to pass and you helping to remove it may have caused a small amount of bleeding from the rectal tissue. Cats can become constipated, and if she has been passing less stool than usual, straining to defecate and had a decreased appetite I would recommend seeing a veterinarian. There are some other things that can cause blood in the stool as well including intestinal parasites, colitis or even inflammatory bowel disease. If the blood is persistent you should make an appointment to see your veterinarian as well.

There is a little bit of blood but not an excessive amount, so I wouldn't get too worried just yet. It could be from overeating, but yes have Lilo seen by a vet for it. It's not an emergency since she is otherwise fine, you can wait until the morning to have her seen.

I just realized that it is after midnight where you are and by the time you get to the vet it will be around 3 am. If you can get Cosmic to a veterinarian first thing in the morning and the bleeding has stopped then he should be ok to see your vet in the morning. If you do that please confine him and place an elizabethan collar on him so he does not scratch the lesions. Have a good night and I hope he feels better soon.
