My cat has blood and a small hole near her anus. What should I do?

That dark discoloration implies that top skin no longer has blood supply and it is not healthy tissue. This is likely an abscess from an injury or previous bite wound. Typically they can heal on their own, but the bacteria get trapped and cause this. She will need to see a vet for further treatment as that spot may have to be surgically removed and the area cleaned and flushed out. Antibiotics need to be given to maintain control of the infection so it can heal. These areas are very painful so any touching or straining is not recommend.

It is difficult to say without being able to examine your kitty. This may be blood from an anal gland infection, but could also be from an injury or bloody diarrhea. You should take her to a veterinary doctor as she will need antibiotics to prevent infection.

She may have an infected anal sac or a little growth. You should have this examined by a veterinarian. If it is an impacted anal sac, it can easily be emptied. If it is a growth, it may have to be removed.

She may have an anal sac abscess, or she could have a little bit of colitis and she just hasn’t had a bowel movement for you to see the full effect of what is going on. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Smokey! I am concerned that it could be a ruptured anal gland abscess. I recommend that you have Smokey seen today by a Vet especially since it looks worse today. His anal glands should be checked and if a ruptured anal gland it should be assess to see if surgery is indicated. Otherwise they are treated with an E-collar, antibiotics and pain medications. It looks like Izzy has an abscess. In that location it is usually due to a bite from another cat. It is actually good that it burst open. It may heal now if you keep it clean (1:10 dilution of Betadine solution to water) and apply Neosporin ointment to it. However, often times once it seals closed the infection will return. More often that not cats need antibiotics to get these to heal completely. So, my suggestion would be to get her to your vet for an exam and some antibiotics. If you want to try to keep it clean and treat it at home you can try that but if it appears to heal and then comes back she will need to see your vet. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

If you are sure it is coming from her anus, but she's otherwise acting normally, and the stools are formed and normal but there's a little blood from her anus afterwards, you could try adding a fiber and probiotic dietary supplement, this can help decrease inflammation in the colon. Something like this: If you aren't seeing any improvement, if her stools are soft or liquid or there is blood routinely present IN the stool, if she is vomiting, or the blood is coming from her vuvla, not her anus, have her evaluated by your vet. Talk to your vet about a rectal exam; we don't routinely do this in cats, but if her anal glands are bleeding or she has a growth or mass in her rectum, a rectal exam would be needed for evaluate for that.
