My new cat's paw pad is bleeding, how do I stop him from licking?

I suggest you try this wound spray and keep the foot covered with a sock. If it doesn't heal (which it should easily if it is just a wound) you will need to take her back to the vet. If it's not bleeding I would recommend getting an e-collar in order to put it around his neck, that will prevent him from licking it. take him tomorrow to the vet in order to get it checked as he might need a course of antibiotics to prevent an infection.

It is hard to know exactly what is needed without an examination though this does sound severe enough that it warrants an evaluation by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check if further surgery is needed or possibly treat for a likely infection and most importantly start Selina on medications for pain as this is likely painful. There is a small risk of infection. Monitor the nail and if the paw or pad or the area around the nail starts to swell, have your veterinarian examine it. If you could keep Toews from licking it, it would speed up healing. An e-collar would greatly help there.

Hello, my name is Dr. Elizabeth and I am happy to help. I hate to hear this lesion on Patch is not healing. I think the main thing to address is the licking. The first thing you need to do is stop the licking (since this can make it worse). Patches should wear an elizabethan collar at all times. Remember that the collar must come out past her nose in order to be effective. Next, wear gloves to handle the lesion and be sure to wash your hands afterwards. Get pet wipes that contain Chlorhexidine. Cleanse the area twice a day. This will help to control the number of topical pathogens as well as remove oil and dead skin cells. Lastly, after the area is completely dry, apply a topical antibiotic twice a day. Just a dab will do and rub it in well. Neosporin is fine to use. Again, wear gloves or apply with a q-tip. Patches needs to be indoors at all times. Cats can't wear elizabethan collars outside as they are a choking hazard if they were to get hung up. She can only wear the collar if she is in a safe environment. If the spot is not much better in 1 week, if it gets worse at any point or if the lesion is not completely healed within 2 weeks, Patches needs to be examined by the veterinarian. Poor Kitty. Try to apply gentle pressure to stop the bleeding. Put an Ecollar on her to keep her from licking it, as that can make it worse. You can make one at home or buy one at a pet store. Having her seen by a vet tomorrow is a good idea.

This lesion could be a result of a skin infection, ringworm, mange, flea allergy, among others. While you can use Neosporin, I do not typically find it to be overly effective for most wounds on pets. Also be sure that M is receiving a high quality flea preventative, such as Advantage, Bravecto, or Revolution regularly.
