My cat was bitten and is limping. What should I do to help him?

Ideally, he should be physically examined by your veterinarian. He may have been bitten by another cat which would explain his symptoms. A cat bite can be difficult to detect and can abscess and be quite painful. Antibiotics and pain medication may be indicated.

It sounds like Kuro has a cat bite abscess and a severe fever from the infection. This will require antibiotics and antiinflammatory medications to be prescribed by your vet, especially when it is the lower leg that is affected as this can lead to very serious infections of the joints and bones. I think an immediate check up is required as the most likely problem is that they got into a fight and Lissana has an abscess on the lower back region. Possibly the limp is due to pain on the back region, but it is unlikely that spinal cord is involved (she would possibly drag the leg when she walks rather than limping on it and there would be other signs as well). If there is a bit wound, abscess must be lanced, flushed, disinfected and antibiotics must be given. It is painful and makes the cat not want to eat. She will need to see a veterinarian to determine if this is the case. If so, treatment such as antibiotics will be necessary. Snowball sounds like he has a nasty infected wound from the bite and the bacteria in the wound often makes cats feel very sick. Hot compress the bite area with a warm water/epsom salt solution as often as you can to keep the wound draining and open until you can get to the veterinarian for some antibiotics and pain medication. Not an emergency, but he'll feel much better if you can get the abscess open and draining and get some medication into him from the veterinarian!
