My cat got a bite wound. Is this antibiotic and pain treatment good?

I think that will solve you having to medicate Cinco. But yes the ointment baneocin should be ok, just prevent him from licking it. It may not be enough, especially if your Vet felt he needed to be on oral antibiotics. Good luck!

Yes, antibiotics needs to be given for 10-14 days for a bite to prevent an infection from developing, Billie received an injection called Convenia which is an antibiotic injection that works for 14 days. the 2 first injections might have been unnecessary though (i usually give the convenia and that's it).

I'm sorry to hear about Gooty's injury, but I'm glad to hear that he's already been started on appropriate antibiotics and pain medication. The white discharge that you are seeing certainly could be some lingering purulent (pus-like) discharge that is an accumulation of dead white blood cells, but it is also possible that it is a fibrin (protein-like) substance that is promoting healing. I can't differentiate between these two discharge types from the picture, but either one is still normal to find just 2 days after a bite wound injury. If the discharge continues by early next week, or if Gooty experiences lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, or a decreased appetite, he should go back to the vet for further evaluation. Although a picture of the wounds would help to determine more specifically the most appropriate treatment needed, bite wounds/injuries are infected for definition so antibiotics (like amoxicillin and clavulanic acid at 12,5mg/kg twice daily and painkillers -specifically designed for cats like Meloxicam or carprofen for example would help-. Disinfection of the wounds can be possibly started with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Stitches may be needed depending on the type of wounds.

If the antibiotic is causing some stomach upset, contact your veterinarian and request a different antibiotic. You can also ask for an injectable antibiotic, such as Convenia, which will bypass his gastrointestinal system. Subcutaneous fluids can be adminstered to maintain hydration. Warm his food slightly or mix in some plain baby food to stimulate his appetite. If he won't eat, you may need to syringe feed him. If there is an abscess from the bite wound, it needs to be lanced and drained. Pain medication may be needed. Do not medicate him with any over the counter medicines. Many can be toxic to cats.

Antibiotic ointment may not by enough to treat it and Collic possibly will need a course of antibiotic in form of tablets to get back to normal. I would recommend Collic to be checked over by your local vets to fully assess the wound and to recommend the best treatment option.

Yes. I would recommend to take her to the vet. The doctor will likely put her on antibiotics to try to clean up the infection. You also need to make sure that she is not licking at the area as this can make it worse. She should wear an Elizabethan collar at all times and be kept indoors completely until the wound is completely healed.
