My cat is inactive and won't eat after a cat bite antibiotic.

I recommend finishing out his liquid antibiotic via oral syringe if you haven’t already. If he is still eating his dry food, then I wouldn’t worry too much about him avoiding canned food for now. You can try putting a very small amount of canned food in his mouth every few days after to show him that the food no longer has a medicinal taste. With patience and time he may start eating canned food on his own again. If he is not eating at all ( including dry food), then I recommend bringing him in to see your veterinarian as complete inappetance for more than 2 days in cats can lead to a very serious condition called hepatic lipidosis. If he is not eating at all, your vet may do additional diagnostics and/or recommend anti-nausea medications and/or appetite stimulants. Good luck!

I’m so sorry to hear that this is going on with your cat. If the other symptoms have begun to resolve and the anorexia is the only problem then yes, it could be from the antibiotics. If however the initial symptoms have not resolved and now your cat is not eating it is probably due to a progression of the disease. If this is the case, then I would recommend taking your cat back in to have a recheck. He may need additional medications and treatments or he may be at the end stages of his disease. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I would agree with the veterinarian that the blood work does not look concerning at this time. If his appetite has decreased with antibiotics, I would recommend discontinuing the antibiotics and seeing how his appetite improves. If he continues to be inappetant or is lethargic, I would have the veterinarian recheck him to ensure everything is ok. If he continues to be itchy, I would recommend using a topical shampoo such as Douxo PS shampoo which can be found online quite easily and bathe twice weekly until resolved. I would also recommend using Essential 6 spot on by Dermoscent, which can also be found online. If he continues to be itchy, it may be time to consider switching to a different food or even consider seeing a veterinary dermatologist. I hope this helps! You can try to entice his appetite with things like tuna, tuna water and chicken. If his appetite does not improve by tomorrow, let your veterinarian know as anorexia can be detrimental to a cat's health. Good luck and have a great day!

Oral antibiotics can not be injected so please don't inject an antibiotic that was prescribed orally. There is an injectable antibiotic called Convenia that you could ask your vet about administering.

He may have not escaped uninjured. It is possible he was bitten and is developing and infection or abscess. Cat bites can be difficult to spot. Ideally, he should be physically examined by your veterinarian. He may need antibiotics and pain medications.

Poor Clementine, it is a lot to go through at her age, however I am confident she can get better. I would not worry about the ointment if the abscess has already scabbed over. You can try cleaning the pus away gently with some cotton wool and lukewarm water, if she allows you to do so. As her sense of smell is probably affected, you need to offer her food that smells quite strong such as tuna in water, or boiled cod, or Hill’s recovery wet food. In particular, this last food is in a pate form, and it can be made a bit more watery by adding some water to aid water intake. You could warm it up slightly in the microwave, and offer it afterwards. Always start small with portions, and if eating increase the portion and offer again in 2 hours. If she is still not eating by this afternoon best to have her checked over as she could benefit from being rehydrated and have her temperature rechecked as it could still be up a bit. Hope she makes some progress soon.
