My indoor cats got out and have bite marks. What animal attacked them?

Abscesses required opening them up and antibiotics. The only thing you can do is clean the wounds twice daily with warm water and a mild soap and warm compress the wounds after each cleaning for the next 3-5 days. I wish you the best!

With a wound that severe, It would be best to bring him to your vet or an emergency clinic immediately. Any time a cat escapes and is gone for several hours or days, and comes back wounded, vet care is needed. Your vet can clean and treat the wound with medications, stutures, etc, and also check Naru over to rule out any internal injuries or injuries on the body that need care.

I also recommend a rabies vaccination especially if he got bit by another cat. If he can lick or scratch at the areas an elizabethan collar would be beneficial so he doesn't make the wounds worse. That looks like a bad bite and needs to be seen by a vet right away. Cats that go outside are more likely to get into fights with other cats, and these wounds can easily become infected. Your vet can clean and drain the wound, and provide antibiotics, pain meds and other treatments as needed.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Stormy! I would shave the fur away from the wound then clean it well with water and a mild soap (avoid hydrogen peroxide). Then apply triple antibiotic ointment twice daily. The most important thing is to have Stormy wear and E-collar to prevent licking and keep him indoors. He should see a Vet as soon as possible to at a minimum get antibiotics but to also see if surgery is required to close the wound.
